Getting fx between mods

I'm back! Wanted to find out how you get fx transferred between games...or add an fx to a game. For instance, there aren't any fx in any of the games that really suit "super breath" well. There is one, big_blu_death_breath, in the JLA mod for FF, that does pretty well, though. But, I've found that you can't just copy that fx's folder from fx\generic to another mod's generic folder & have it work. Do you also have to bring over a textures file to make it happen? And how do you know which one it is? Using this example, what goes w/ that big_blu_death_breath folder to make it shows up in the AVAILABLE FX list for a hero's power? Thank you much!

You'll need three things to make this happen FG.  First, you'll need to get the actual .nif, which you've already located.  Then, you'll need the texture that goes with it.  They are generally named in such a way that you can figure them out.  If you can't find the right texture, then open the .nif in a hex editor (NOT nifskope, different thing) and search for tga.  Get those two things, put them in the appropriate folders in your NEW mod, and then open up that mod in FFEdit.  You'll need to create an FX entry for your new FX.  You can simply reference the entry in the original mod, or make up your own.  You can also go to the sounds tab and tie a sound effect to it as well.

As an aside, there is nothing wrong with using nifskope for this. I personally find that nifskope is easier for finding textures, but its a personal preference with whatever you are comfortable with. For Benton its a hex editor, for me its not... I just didn't want you thinking that you COULDN'T do it with nifskope.

...But yeah, What he said.

Well....actually...I thought that you couldn't do it with nifskope....  Oops.

Come on Benton.... You can do EVERYTHING with nifskope.
In fact tonight, I'm using nifskope to make a pizza AND do the dishes!
