do you use them and if so what ones and why, or do you not. do you have any preference on the whole subject love/hate/don't care.

I am on facebook because when I was drunk my friends hot sister convinced me it was a good idea

I personally don't use them, as I'm kind of a private guy by nature, and I think the idea of putting any part of my real life online just cause I can is kind of silly -- especially knowing that once its on the internet, it's always there. I kept in touch with all of the people I wanted to, and if somebody tracks me down or wants to get in contact with me or talk to me about something, I don't feel the need to share it with the rest of the world. On a separate level, I think that while they do serve some useful purposes for some people, facebook, twitter etc... they also serve to fuel this self obsessed, "look at me" cult of personality that I find annoying. Ive often had this discussion with friends about how we spend so much time "communicating" about things, we don't actually do anything anymore.

I fall into the don't use / don't care demographic. For a while a had a dummy account on a couple sites because people would say, "Check out my myspace or facebook page." Basically, it wasn't worth it. I know some of the pages are well done, but, for the most part they are disorganized and visually busy to the point of being ugly. I may check into them again periodically, but my impression thus far has been that the signal-to-noise ratio is typically too low to be worth my time.

I've got a myspace profile that I long abandoned, I dont even think spam bots contact it anymore.

I also have facebook but I neglect it for months at end. It is also pretty much just friends and family, if some unknown cute girl sends me something I just ignore it.

Lastly I did internet dating a little via OK Cupid. I still have an account (say's taken though) there because my current girlfriend is way out of my league and one day she will realize that and I'll be back to internet dating.

Yep, I have a bunch.  Facebook is the most used for me.  I've managed to connect with relatives I haven't seen in over 20 years, so yeah its handy to use.  Let's see what I have.

My Livejournal - I don't use this much, but I keep it mainly for the feeds
My Facebook
MyAnimeList.net Profile - I have been using this site a lot lately, as I can easily manage my anime and there are forums and clubs for various anime and manga.  I don't have a lot of contacts there yet but I quite enjoy the site.

catwhowalksbyhimself

I very, VERY reluctantly joined Facebook, but I've been able to connect to many people that I'd lost touch with, so it's been worth it.

It's also been a convenient way for my sister to share pictures of my very cute new niece.

My job pretty much requires me to be a social media whore. I really like to consider myself the Kathy Griffin of SM. I'm not really relevant but there are a few people who feel they need to follow me to see what terrible thing will happen to me next.

Reepicheep

I'm on facebook because I have a girlfriend.

Best...reason...evah.

I don't use them because I don't feel I need to, I try to keep in contact in other ways. Some people don't have the time to do that and facebook et al. are good alternatives to enable them to network and stay up to date in their friends lives.

Mr. Hamrick

Let's see . . .

I am on facebook, myspace, twitter, and a bunch of other ones that I have some what lost track of and rarely check.

For the most part, I am on them for networking.  My myspace account is set up as a filmmaker account and I will eventually upload a few more vids to it.

My facebook account currently has a mix of professional and personal.  I am not too happy with this.  I'd rather keep most of my professional contacts to myspace unless they are people that I associate with outside of work.

However, I have several personal friends who have myspace but don't have facebook and vice versa.

Anyways, I've found Facebook and Myspace to have its uses.  Twitter is something that I was talked into getting by a female pro-wrestler friend but just started really doing anything with earlier this year.  (despite having had twiiter since 2007.)

I used to use myspace.  Now I use Facebook.  I really don't want to join anymore.  I like for things to be centralized.  I don't even like having more than one email address.  It's cool to be in contact with friends and family and i don't see any reason to have all kinds of separate places for that.

I'm a social person by nature, so the social networks are pretty much right up my alley.

I joined 'MySpace' because I like meeting people (80% women) from everywhere I normally wouldn't have who share my interest... whether its music, comics, movies, etc.  It's still my primary social site. I met my last (7 months)and my current (2+years) GFs through Myspace.  I enjoy Myspace for all it offers... new music, movie and television promotions, a ton of independent artist, etc.

I was pushed into joining 'Facebook', which I didn't like at first... but they made changes I'm cool with.  I primarily am on it connecting with old friends, school mates and some of my friends who migrated from MySpace.

I refuse to join 'Twitter'.  Its based on the one aspect about Facebook I can't stand... the constant barrage of post every time someone scratches thier behind.

I've been on 'Black Planet' on and off for nearly a decade.  Lets just say the women there tend to be very 'bootylicous' (thanx Beyonce).  Other wise it bores me to no end.

I have an account with My Anime List, but its new and I don't use it very much yet.

I've got profiles at other sites like Imeem and You Tube, but I just don't use much.  Simply put, A person can only be in so many places

Sevenforce

I have an account on pretty much every social media site known to man, and a few that probably aren't, but I only regularly check facebook and twitter at the moment. The rest I only check if I have notifications (which is pretty rare, as my notification rules are strict)
I so need booze -_-

JeyNyce

I'm on facebook & Twitter.  Let me know if you want me as a friend.......please....can I be your friend???  LOL!

It's the internet, don't take it personal!

Pyroclasm

I'm on Facebook.  All of my local friends are on Facebook and it is a good-sized group of interconnected people.  So when there is a get together or other event, we can use Facebook to get the word out without having to call more than two dozen people or send out mass emails.  Everyone is kept up to date quick and easy.  When friends want to share something positive or negative that has happened, it's easy.  We can also chat live if we just happen to be on at the same time.  I don't really post many pictures and my privacy settings are set to only friends, because I don't need everyone knowing my business.  I'm just too busy to be on the phone all day everyday just to communicate with the group.

Bujin

I initially joined Facebook to keep track of what my boys were doing.  However, it's allowed me to keep track with some folks I haven't spoken to in years...it also has allowed some of my old students to find me.

Now I use it to share pics of the family, etc.  I love it!

The Hitman

I have a Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. I dunno, I'm a pretty social guy I guess. Plus, Facebook lets me keep up with a ton of people I usually would have lost complete contact with. And I use Twitter for movie reviews... in theory.

Tomato

I have a myspace page, that's really about it. And frankly, I only got on myspace because one of my female friends was like "ZOMG, GET ON MYSPACE!" and I'm... well, I'm a guy. Fact is I updated it one time a few years ago, and I haven't touched it since.

Twitter amuses me though. I watch all these old people in politics twitter in some sad, pathetic attempt to be "hip" and I can't help myself but point and laugh at them.

cmdrkoenig67

I have a Facebook account, I just say no to Twitter and I haven't used my old My Space account in about a year...I don't think I'd even be able to log-in there anymore (not that I care to).

I still use LiveJournal more than anything. The posts there tend to be a little more substantial, and I like the fact that you can follow someone without them necessarily having to "friend" you back. I have accounts on MySpace and Facebook, but I don't use them for much.

Tawodi Osdi

I have a Facebook page, but I seldom visit it, and I don't really know what I want to do with it.  I am worried about putting something on their that will haunt me later, and I am private person and don't like talking about myself that much.

I have recently gotten into writing short stories and poems, and I have thought about of posting them their once I have any that is good enough to show off.
