Complete and utter hardware failure...now what?

Well, we've all gone through this: Catastrophic hardware failure; total loss.

I was running FFvTTR on a nice, old-school XP build...yes, it was a matter of time. Motherboard's fried at the least...it was a nice excuse to buy a new computer. I've got a Windows 7 laptop, 64-bit. It's nice.

But now...the question. I don't even know if I can run FFvTTR on this thing...then, if I get it loaded, I've got to get FFX loaded and working, then the conversion packages and nifskope and characters and hero files and ai/scripts...

Wow. It just seems so...daunting. I've played Freedom Force since the first game, been around Freedom Reborn for, wow...a long time. Wow. It's been a long time. Believe me, I so appreciate all of the creators, their talent and abilities...all of you guys are amazing.

I know no one can answer this for me, but I do have to ask myself the simple question...rebuild (if it's even possible)...or just let it go?

It would be weird...different. Without fail, I would take new releases, tweak them for settings/powers, and take them for a spin in the Danger Room. For years, I've done this.

Now...I don't know. I guess the first question is this: Does FFvTTR even work on Windows 7/64-bit platforms? That might answer my question, right there...

i've had to start fresh several times over the years now.  it is always worth it.  consider, you see a new skin or mesh or mod, and ... what?  you look at the image, or you load it up and run it.
if you can find a copy of windows 2000, you could have an alternate boot, that's what i do.

ElijahSnowFan

Huh. An alternate boot...huh.

Thanks, Bearded...I'll have to do some research, maybe see what I can salvage from the hard drive, check out what I backed up...It'll be different, but quitting's not really a good answer, ever.

You're right...what would I do without this stuff? It's kinda become a way of life.

No one has reported on whether or not FF can run in Windows 7 (at least not here), but I'd venture out to say that it probably will run (FFvTTR at least). If it doesn't, you can always try running it in XP compat mode, since that setting has gotten great reviews and seems to be able to run 3ds Max 5 (which can't be run on Win vista or 7 naturally).

FFVTTR does work in 64-bit windows 7.  i haven't tried FF yet.  I've got the steam versions of both games, but i haven't thoroughly playtested FFX or anything on them yet.
Ctool, FFedit and everything works fine though.

Urg....I've had to to do that before.  An hold hard drive of mine actually caught on fire.......that was fun.  Anyway, it's totally worth it to rebuild.  I'm rebuilding on the software side right now.
