Need help: holding a cane

Bearded created this beautiful wolf's head cane for Baranbas, here, but I need to know how to attach it. It's attached to his hand, but when he closes his fist, the cane shifts to the outside of his knuckles. Probably not real clear in the game, but it bothers me.

In max I'd share the weighting between the hand and first finger bone for this sort of thing. It can lead to squashing of the cane, though.
Other option, just attach to the finger bone instead of the hand.
With either option you may need to tweak the position of the cane in the hand to look good in both open and closed position.
The other luxury Max provides is that I can alter the keyframes so the hand stays in positions that look good with an object held in it. Maybe look at a Thor mesh, or some other weapon wielding mesh, for possible keyframe options.

or you could try removing all animations from the hand.
