For the last couple of months I have had problems playing games on my pc. After about an hour or so, my comp will lock up and a really loud screeching loop comes out of my speakers, forcing me to reboot the pc. I looked this up and it's apparently called the screech of death. I couldn't find a fix for this other than removing the sound card and using the onboard sound. I have a SB X-Fi card. Do any of you guys/gals know anything about this?

Have you tried other versions of the sound card drivers?
Or re-installing DirectX?
Or trying to change the sound settings within the affected games (ie you might have a choice between Miles, SBAudigy, DirectX, Software or Hardware in the Options>sounds settings.)
