Don't worry CB, i haven't started my thread rampage again  :D :D. I just didn't know where else to place this topic. The thing that bugs me the last few days is the heroes portraits. I have downloaded some packs but since my chars are increasing i find it more difficult to locate portraits so i thought, why not make some? So due to the fact that i am totally ignorant of any photo processing programm could someone post the procedure of how to take a pic from the net and shape it into a tga or dds file?

So many different ways you can go with that. If you have windows, I just grab/ save the pic from the net or do a screen capture to get the pic and edit in paint. The pic MUST be 64x128 pixels.

After that, I personally use ifranview to convert to tga. I used to use a nice dds converter but windows 7 won't run it. I have to use my older Winxp computer for that.

I'm sure there's a lot of other editors out there that could work, just not familiar with them - paintshop and Gimp come to mind.

I am pretty sure that Irfanview will let you crop, resize, and save an image in as a TGA. I know it can read DDS files, but I don't think it can save in that format. I use irfanview as my default program for opening most image files because it is easy and very fast. I use GIMP for pretty much everything else.

[LOL Randomdays beat me to it. And, yes, some googling shows that GIMP has a plug-in for DDS.]

If you're interested, there is a Yahoo Group that has only Portraits in it:

Thx CB but i just realized i had them all . That;s why i am planning of making my own now. So i have to resize the image first then convert it to tga. As i get, infraview is among the best choices so i will go with that. Thx, you saved the day again guys. I will post again if everything goes according to plan  :D

A couple of other things, but you should already know these; 1) The pic MUST be named portrait.tga and MUST be in the skins directory for that character.

Thx for the tip RD but you are right, i knew that  :D

I also wanted to mention a little quirk regarding the Hero Tools (EZHero, Mrbdo's Tool, etc.). These tools don't recognize the dds format, so when viewing a hero file, the portrait will not show. When I do portraits for my heroes, if the skin has dds files, then I make two portrait files (dds and tga) so that I can view the portrait in my hero tool. I know this isn't a major issue, but it tends to irritate my Obsessive Compulsive trait.  :D

Hahahah i know what you mean Hoss. It's equal frustrating for my custom attr not to show up on Ezhero, i know the feeling. Thx for the advice i will keep that in mind so i don;t have to enter rumble to view the portrait.

For adding your custom attributes to the EZHero, click on Tools-->Add Custom Attribute...
This will open up the attrib.ini file in Notepad
Enter your custom attribute to the list in the format shown in the file: AttributeName,FFEditAttributeName   (no spaces between the names and the comma)
Then, save the file.
Of course, if you made your own Combo Attribute, you can get the name from the FFXmulti file.
I'm not sure if, like the game, there is a limit to the number of total attributes that there can be. I seem to remember an issue when I just started adding my attributes. So, as a result, I went ahead and deleted some attributes that I knew my characters wouldn't use or didn't fit into the hero world that I was creating.
Also, before you save the new attrib.ini file, scroll down to the bottom of the list of attributes and make sure that there isn't a line showing the directory of your hero files. This will appear sometimes and I haven't figured out what I do that makes this happen. If it's there, just delete it.
If you save the file with this line in there, you will get an error message whenever you try to open the next hero file.
Let me know if this works for you or if you have any questions.

<Edit> I almost forgot. I believe that the attributes for the last FFX patch 3.3 aren't in the attrib.ini file. There are just a few like Body Armor, for example. So, these will also have to be added in if your heroes use them.
