Hey guys and gals,

Lately I've been working on an idea combining two of my hobbies[soccer/football + comics] using one of my other hobbies[art/design] to create a nifty[i hope] portfolio piece. Following the same "what if..." theme as my previous skinning projects[UDCU + Marvel: Legacy] I decided to do a "What if the MLS[Major League Soccer] had franchises in the DC universe?" project. I picked six cities and built a brand, kit/uniform designs, and corporate sponsor for each. References to the hero that resides in each city ranges in subtlety. I did not want to create the Gotham Batmans or the Metropolis Supermans. I wanted each to have their own identity. Well, first up is:

Metropolis Steel

Primary Mark

Secondary Mark

Corporate Sponsor

Uniforms/Kits

Tomato

Hmmm... I like the actual graphics/designs for the uniforms (I love the city graphic with the daily planet globe) but I'm not feeling the name at all... it doesn't help that it's the name of another metropolis hero. Since you're determined not to use "supermen" (I would argue that Superman is a big enough celebrity in Metropolis that the local sports teams would be chomping at the bit to use his name) I'd go with something beginning with an "M" instead.

contrary to tomato, i liked the name. it didn't occur to me, the john steel connection, until mentioned. now i can't not think of it.

Podmark

Ah cool you're doing these again. I really liked that last set of uniforms you did.
Really neat idea, and the graphics look great.

The main logo gets the Metropolis down but doesn't really say steel to me. Nor does the secondary. It'd probably work better if the main colour was silver/chrome rather than blue. And a bolt pattern would really nail it down.

One of the names I was toying with was Metropolis United but I felt it sounded like Manchester United. Maybe I just over-thought it. Metropolis Fortress was also another.

I did in fact try the bolts on certain parts but didn't like it. I have no specific reason why I didnt. I just deleted them and never looked back. Perhaps I'll try again or change team names.

Thank you guys for your input.

Neal Adams did some "super-heroized" real-world football franchises. I haven't seen them in years...

Might be fun for some inspiration.

I've been thinking of requesting a football player mesh-with a correct helmet, and built in pads. No real use for one-just fun to do skins for the local college teams (Roll Tide and War Eagle!). It would probably need custom keyframes for the throw, I know there is a "charge" animation.

Outcast

It's nice to see you making some creative designs again Murs! It certainly is an interesting idea. To be honest though, i thought i would be seeing some unique superheroes in the spoilers.

A thought I considered as well...I may revisit when I complete this project.

Sorry Outcast, no unique superheroes from me...unless it's a skin.

Alas, I changed the name to Metropolis United. Updated pics utilizing my presentation template.

Well that was what i was expecting to see really. :P A skin of some superhero named Metropolis Steel or something like that.  :D

Anyways, Metropolis Steel sounds more like a football/soccer franchise to me compared to Metropolis United. But what do i know.

The primary mark logo looks pretty good to me.

The secondary mark logo just looks like a logo "M"urs would use. :P Still cool though, if you think about how Nike's logo looks. :)
