And I know for a fact I was able to play it on my laptop before. It's been a long time since I reinstalled it (at least over a year) but after I did it won't open. I ran the 1.3 patch, tried running it in compatibility mode for XP SP2 and 98/ME with admin privileges. The only thing that comes up is an error box saying to sign in as administrator and try again, if I leave the "Run as Administrator" box unchecked in properties>Compatibility. Obviously, my account IS the admin one. If I run it in 640x480 resolution, the screen will adjust to that resolution for a second and immediately revert to the desktop. ...but I know I ran it on my laptop before! It's so frustrating...

I'm installing  :ff: from the disc I still have, not from Steam. I didn't have a problem with it before, other than a minor dialog box saying the program didn't close properly every time I exited the game.
Dark Phoenix: You once told Jean Grey that the greatest joy a teacher has is to be surpassed by his own pupil. Enjoy!
Professor Xavier: In the battlefield of the mind, my will shall prevail!
DP: Do you really think your puny mind is a match for mine? The conceit of you humans! The arrogance!

You have to disable the Desktop Composition, or something like that.

It's in Properties, the same place where you set all of the Compatibility settings and whatnot.

I will post this here, as to not have another 'Freedom Force not working in Windows 7.' I too have attempted to install from the disc, and have not been able to get Freedom Force 1 to start up in Windows 7(x64) after installing Freedom Force patch 1.3 and also going to the .exe properties, running in SP2 compatibility, disabling visual themes and desktop compisition, and even running as an admin. I even tried starting it in windows 98/Me and still nothing. I'm really at my wits end. There's not even an error message. The game just...won't start up. I click on the icon to start and then....nothing happens. No error, no nothing. Even tried to install it first on my secondary drive, didn't work, then I uninstalled, and tried to install it on my main C drive. Both had the same effect of not even starting. x.x

Get the Steam version of  :ff:. It's pretty cheap. They fixed it so it doesn't need the patch anymore.
Taking a break due to RL issues.

I've been hesitant to buy the Steam version because of the issues I have with the CD. But....I might do just that when it's on sale. Thanks :)
