Costume Rating 73: Captain America Sam Wilson

Captain America: Civil War is in theatres so we need to do something Captain America related. Sam Wilson, formerly the Falcon, took on the role and this is what he wears:

I like it, for what it is. It's a bit busy maybe, but it does the job it's trying to do.

I like it for what is is. It looks like a Captain America costume, but not like he's pretending to be the original.

I have really mixed up feelings for this one, ultimately deciding on Meh. I really want to like it, I love the idea of Sam stepping up and the basics of the design are good, but usually this costume just doesn't do it for me. It's busier than it needs to be, particularly the white pattern on his chest. And I don't like the mask cut near the hairline. The colour balance seems off. Still it's hardly terrible, I think I'm just looking for more.

I agree with Pod.  I give it a 3.  It's good, other than the chest...and I feel like the belt should either go brighter white or do red.  The gray just feels unfinished.  I love the idea of Sam as Cap.  It's a great direction for the character and the legacy.  The shield does look a bit awkward with the wings, though.

Initially, I liked it. After studying it a bit, I'll have to go with a 3 also. I agree with Benton and Pod. The mask (or jaw cover) is unnecessary. Just give him goggles and leave it at that. The chest emblem is too much. If they had trimmed it down to the similar design of the Steve Rogers, Agent of Shield look, when Steve first came back; it would look much better. I'm with Benton on the gray, too. It looks like a WIP. The knee pads could be the same color as his legs and they're still going to be noticeable. The belt looks horrible. Even making it black or brown would be an improvement. I haven't seen how it looks from the back, but I'm unclear why the part of the wings attached to his shoulders are also gray. The topside of the wings are red, the underside is gray. Why make the topside of the shoulder pieces gray?
