Ditko-esque FX?

I was thinking about LP's Clea skin and began to wonder if it would be possible to create fx that looked like Steve Ditko's art.  I think I'll see what I can do, but if i'm heading the wrong way down a one-way street I'd like a little warning.

Okay, I made a texture for an active defense I was going to put on the minuteman active defense.  It looks like the circular blob between Strange and Dormy in the link above.  The problem I encrounted is that the place where the texture goes on the fx is actually in the shape of a shield.  I'm going to try something else and will report back soon.

Okay, I found a better option, maybe.  I'm using the Blitzkreig passive defense as a template.  Report back later tonight or tomorrow with pics, I hope.
