Oh, it gets better...
I bought a new hard drive, cloned the old one onto it, and then installed windows 7. Despite it mostly working and having some definite plusses (like actually using all 4gig of my memory, and letting my video card actually run dx10 games), one BIG drawback is I have yet to get 3ds max to work. As usual its the stupid c-dilla licence, which actually refuses to reinstall at all on windows 7. So that's fun.
My task today; to sort that out, or to set up my older, flakier backup pc which still has xp and a working 3ds max on.
Gaaaahhhh.. :banghead:

Windows 7 should not be using all 4 gig of memory as it takes less resources than vista to run.  Less free memory you have will cause the system to freeze up and crash.  Try editing the startup (start-msconfig-startup tab) to free up resources and see what is draining your memory.   :rickbm

When I say "using", I mean "recognizing and making available for use" as opposed to "actually using". I should have made that clearer.
It'll take a few days till everything is where I was on wednesday, but I'll get there...I hope..

Oh Tom...It doesn't have anything to do with Vista does it?  When I tried to reinstall my 3DS Max on my new computer with Vista, it wouldn't allow me to use Max anymore, I think Valandar had the same problem.  Most Max versions work fine on Win XP, but they apparently won't work on Vista...I don't know anything about Windows 7.

Going from memory, "C-dilla" was only supported up to WinXP before being discontinued altogether. The later versions of Max don't use it, hence the main reason C-dilla doesn't work on Vista.

Actually Tommy, if you've got access to 4 GB, may I suggest that you use a virtual PC? It's what I use, and while it can be taking at times, it does work wonders.

tommyboy

Meh.
Having struggled for two days, then had 7 crash so badly and un-fixably that I had to re-install it, which of course can only be done "clean", thereby losing all settings and programmes, at which point i discover that the @?100 external 1TB drive I got 2 days ago to transfer all my settings and programmes across has died, I've had enough of windows 7 for now.
It seems like it may be very nice in due course, and there may well be ways round c-dilla etc. But I've had enough. So I'm back to XP on my old, flakey hdd. I'll clone it onto the new drive tonight, and, I hope, actually be able to use my pc tomorrow or monday.
Meanwhile, beer will make it all better. Beer is my friend...

cmdrkoenig67

I hope things work out okay, Tom.

Best.

Bear is my friend...
fixed.
i have 2 hard drives in my system, one with win2000 for ff, and the other with winxp.  i switch back and forth with different ones being master based on what i'm doing at the time.  this method works like a charm for me.

That, or virtual pc or multi boot partitions might well work for me in the longer run.
For now, I'm back to XP on a single drive (with four other drives/partitions for the remainder of my data/programmes).

Should be released sooner than the human robot:

Gremlin

Cool! I really like the hair and the gun.

Very nice Zot, Tommy. It's great to see your interpretation of characters like him or Human Robot. A suggestion: you might want to have Zot a bit more slender, as he's ~ 15-16 during most of the series.

Great work on making his face look young Tommy. Overall i think it's pretty close to the comics.

Avalon

Very Cool
Where is his gun holster?

Those who have yet to read "Zot!", do so. Both the original colour run, and the later black and white issues are amongst the best comics of the last few decades.

First of some updates and some new stuff:
Thor_tf_v2. Reworked and new geometry, reworked and new keyframes (if the spinning-hammer-hover anim doesnt appeal you are dead inside) and a nice new skin makes this better than my previous versions.

Now, I know everybody loves Beyonder's Thor mesh. I do. So most people will skin for, and continue to use that, and mine will continue to be redundant. But at least download and look at this one is all I'm asking....

Wow, very nice Tommy!  He's got a much better build now, and that skin is indeed a big improvement. :)

:Edit: Tommy, I just tried this out, and I have to say I'm really impressed!  Great work, man.  The only thing I have to suggest is that you should remove the reflection from his cape.  His animations are pretty great, though man. :D

Really nice geomtry and I checked out the keyframes and really enjoyed them.

Your version is definitely not redundant. The take flight animation is stellar.

Podmark

That's a really nice improvement Tommy. I like the hair and the build is a nice enhancement. And that hover I'll have to see in action.

Oooo!  Can't wait to get home to check this out.  Awesome.

tommyboy

Thanks for the kind words. I did try hard to do thor justice, and felt pretty good about it.
As a reward for your kind words, have another mesh,
Nighthawk_def_ft (def coz its the defenders era version, and it's my attempt to evoke Sal Buscema's beautiful artwork):

found here (bottom of the page):
http://tommyboymeshes.freedomforceforever.com/Marvel%20meshes%20N-O.html

It should be noted that he is using Grenadier's excellent Male_cape_Nighthawk keyframes, so please direct all awe about anims towards Grenadier. I am working on a set for him myself, but its coming slooowly. For now, these work better than what i've done.

John Jr.

Beautiful Thor, Tom!
The skin is impressive, the mesh has the "Larger than life" quality we all want in the Thunder God! A perfect version of the Odinson!

cmdrkoenig67

Wow..Tom, your new stuff is looking really great.  That's a very snazzy Thor and Nighthawk you've made.

Epimethee

The man is back! You really captured the feel of Thor! And I do get the Sal Buscema flavour in you Nightwing. :)
