And here I thought they were finally going to change their name to "Cobra"

Looks like Blackwater is officially changing its name and logo to distance itself from an on-going investigation into allegations of its employees' involvement in weapons smuggling and illegal arms sales to suspected terrorist groups in the Middle East.

I don't care if they call themselves a "private military contractor" company pursuing a legit business endeavour. If you purposefully sell your services and products to opposing sides of an armed conflict, that makes you the most despicable kind of opportunist and two-legged leech in my book.

They should have just re-branded themselves as "Cobra" or "M.A.R.S." to tie in with the upcoming G.I. Joe movie, maybe make a nice chunk of licensing money on the side.

Their old company name and logo were already pretty super-villain-esque anyway:

So it shouldn't be too hard to make the switch to this:

or this:

EDIT: BTW, it's not my intention to stir up any political discussions in this thread... just wanted to point out a private company's employees behaving in a most supervillain-y manner, and that company's somewhat ludicrous attempt to re-brand itself in the face of that behaviour's exposure to the public-at-large.

I had no idea that was their old logo. That's awesome.

EDIT: They are now called "Xe." I think that still sounds supervillainy. Like a technical research company that tortures aliens for technology and stuff.

It would be funny if they still keep the same three colours for the new company logo though (red, white, and black). That's a very villain-y combination, used extensively by a universally villified 20th century organization in their own distinct heraldry.

Man, Blackwater is one of those irresistably villainous modern organizations that makes me wonder just what the heck goes on in the world of international arms trafficking and enforcement. That creepy world of behind-the-scenes, beyond-the-law thuggery and violence.

If a clumsy organization like Blackwater can maintain its high level of questionable goings-on, I can't but wonder what other, more highly secretive and influential groups are afoot.

Crazy!!

Oh, and yes, why not just don flashy jumpsuits and put more money into R&D, not unlike a real world AIM.

lugaru

Ah yes, blackwater... that is where a lot of death squad leaders and torturers from latin america retired to. Still... Xe? It is such a metro name for them, it sounds like they should be selling organic cosmetics now or serving fusion cuisine. Also I work in Banking and one of my co-workers has "blackwater training" as a client on their portfolio... I'll keep an eye out on that account to see if it changes names. If so I know for certain who they are now...

Gremlin

I wonder if there are any hideously wealthy arms dealers/military contractors who are also bald? Because, if so...well.

Hail BLACKWATER!

I thinks the orange goggles, or the guy in the kneeling at the bottom, with the green and tan.
"Zack: You never know when a mod mob gorilla will strike you down. You could be minding your business gliding in midair down the boulevard when suddenly a huge and very fresh purple hand will wrap around your most personal of areas."

Glitch Girl

Xe (pronounced "Zee")... that's a lousy name for a group like this.  I mean, what kind of rallying cry can you have to "ZEE!!!!"

(That reminds me, I wonder if my supergroup name generator is still online.  ANYTHING it spits out would have been a better choice than "Xe")

lugaru

Thats why if it is not too late they should change their name to Glee. You know, like "Glee spread quickly through New Orleans after the flood" and "Our taxes bring Glee in the middle east". I can just picture their next campaign... "To deal with our countries depression many Glee Squads have been deployed on U.S. soil" and "After corporate takeover new dictator rules with Glee!"

As someone previoulsy alluded to, if you take the "X" and draw lines at 90 degrees off the end of each bar...

Getting back to their old logo... so what animal made that footprint?  It's got five toes.

@Googles...

It's either a bear with an extra claw indentation or Manimal in mid-transformation.

OMG I never noticed the extra toe. I guess they provide beastman henchmen for super villains as well...

Alternately, it could be a perfectly mundane wolverine.

Nah, they've officially said that it's a bear rear paw print (they still sell stuffed teddy bears in their online shop). Thing is, I always thought that a bear's rear paw print generally leaves only four claw indentations.

So did I, but after you posted that I did a quick search and they do have a 5 toed pawprint.

Darn, I was hoping for more inadvertent comedy out of the design.

No comedy. Just the mark of a deadly soulless killing machine.

I said draw the line at 90 degrees, not 45 or so. ;)

My cat has 5 toes on her back feet. Of course she has 6 on the front.

Hmmm.... they hired Wolverine. That mistake is gonna cost 'em.

Which is a shame, otherwise you could of been president, but those are the first two tests.
