Nice work bud. To me Wolverine still doesn't look "old" enough or to clean. The face as a whole is solid...but I'd maybe some stubble...deepen the furow in his brow.
I can't help it that I look so good baby! I'm just a love machine!

Wolverine's nose. It's seems there's some dirt/smudge but i know it's supposed to be more detail work. Maybe it's the color shading. Really just a minor thing though.

It's a mapping thing and it drove me nuts when I was skinning it. I know how to UV edit now so I might be able to fix it.

Yeah I haven't started editing Wolvie yet. I'll show you guys when I do. Was working on X-23 last night.

Pod could you add a no mask standard X-men Warpath costume?; i'm reading Jimm Lee comics and when he (first i think) wears this costume is when X-Men & X-Factor takes X-Force 'cause they're acussed by the actions of theirs ex-master Cable (when he fired Xavier)... and when he wears it he doesn't wear the mask & the hairband is blue ^_^

That's Rictor actually. Warpath's only appearance that I know of in the B&G costume are two small shots during that scene. He does wear the red headband and a mask.

I hopefully will do a Rictor set one day.

Great work Podmark.
Just out of interest, how far off are your X-Force meshes from being released? I'm really looking forward to them.

Sadly pretty far off. I think Warpath is completely done and ready to release, so I'll maybe try to get him out the door soon. I started Cyclops last week but then got hit with a huge amount of homework, but he won't take too long. I just have trouble finding lots of free time to skin, and that's going to be compounded because I just bought Civ4.

In a prefect world I'd want them done and all released by Christmas or maybe New Years, but a better target for all of them might be around Second Coming.
I'll keep you guys informed. Plan is to release the characters individually as they're done.

Great Pod. I soooo want to use X-Force fro a few Necrosha games.

AfghanAnt

Dont you need some Necrosha baddies?

ghazkul

Well most of them have been done already, actually nearly all of them have! And better yet, unlike Blackest Night, the main difference now they are ressurected is is the circuit markings on their bodies!

Saying that, a new, super sexy Selene would be nice, and some of her followers.

Stopped being lazy, ie a release!

Me too. I dig those old blue and yellow uniforms, too.

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays if you will!

I bring a gift in skin form:

Cyclops in his current costume. Part of my X-Force set.

Cyclops is my favorite X-Man, always has been. Honestly not sure which costume is my favorite, probably the Morrison one, but I like this one. I like it better than the Cassidy Astonishing look, not sure exactly why but I suspect it's the removal of the belt, the chest X, and different piping that I like better. The forearm and shin guards kinda depend on who's drawing them - sometimes I like them, sometimes I don't. I know some of you don't like the current Simone Bianchi designed costumes, and I kinda agree but this one I like.

Before release I plan to update my skin of his Torn arc costume as well.

Comments/critiques please, and if you want closeups or whatever I can provide.

I'll go as in depth as Sony'll let me here, since I'm a Cyclops fan myself

First, I'm impressed with how your Blue/Black turned out... it has a decent pop without being too dark or contrasted. That can be tricky, but it's done well.

Your issues are all in the yellows it seems, the most glaring of which is the X... it's much darker then any of the yellow around it. Also, watch how much blurring you do on details like logos and piping... the X looks like it has a round bevel, rather then having a sharp edge. Same thing goes for the piping, but In this case I would't fiddle with it so much as remove it... the difference in color and shade is almost enough on it's own, and you're better off shading them according to the contours of the body.

Finally, watch that balance between your shadow and highlight lines on detail work... both the wrist and shin bands would look cleaner with a bit more highlight on the bevels and a bit less shadow (maybe using an orange rather then black)

Overall, really solid work Pod.

Very nice Pod. Pretty much what Thomas C. Ato said. I like his chin, makes him look more alpha male. Is there a chance that you might create this same skin but with the silver and black color scheme? I think it would be cool and fitting even though he doesn't actually get his hands dirty. Anyways, excellent work.

Thanks for the comments Tomato, I'll look into that stuff soon. In particular the disc, I think you're absolutely right on that one.
Honestly I wasn't totally happy with the skin from the beginning.

Hmm, cool idea. I'll give it a try if I find time.

Pfft, I'm usually right. It's not my fault the universe gets it wrong every so often.

In all seriousness though, the reason I was so critical was because I thought it was fairly well done, minus a few improvements

Well that's what I'm looking for, useful comments. It's about time I upped my game.

how do you do your edging for bevel and such. i use the pen tool it gives a nice realistic 1 pixal edge without it looking too embossed.

Tomato

Just as a tack on to TUE's post, one way I use to edge is to create my highlight/shadow with an inverted opacity (I typically mask each color I'm working on, so I just copy the mask and flip it) and blur it just a bit (1 pixel is usually enough at 1024, sometimes 2). I'll then duplicate and merge until the edge is sufficiently sharp.

This method is used more or less in tandem with the one TUE mentioned... The blur method is too smooth for piping and details, but the line method can be almost too sharp and pixelated for larger sections like gloves and boots.

Podmark

I actually have just been using the dodge and burn tools to do any kind of highlight or shadow work. It's served me decently but it's probably not the ideal method.

I haven't figured out how to use the pen tool in Photoshop. I've used it in Illustrator, but it doesn't seem to work the same in Photoshop.

Layer Styles is also an option.

QuoteI've used it in Illustrator, but it doesn't seem to work the same in Photoshop.

It's such a tease compared to the Illustrator version.

laughing paradox

First and foremost, I like the skin a lot. I'm really awful with skinning feet, and you did a really good job with that.

As for a few suggestions, have you considered doing less highlights on the skin? What I mean is only highlights small parts of the muscle, as opposed to the whole muscle. It adds a new dimension to the skin.

Also, the shade of yellow on those big seams do not match the wrist- and leg-bands, but it could be my computer screen. I might suggest using a gradient of three shades of the yellow - dark, bright and midtone - that appear on those big seams across his body as a basis for the bands.

Tomato

See, this is why I use PSP X2. My line tool is awesome, I do all my shapes and such with it.

deano_ue

honestly guys a wacom, does help. i draw 99% of my skin stuff and then once it's done fine tune it with the pen tool

area34

I use a wacom also but I find that doing solid lines and details like the cyke has come across as blurry or to airbrushy unless I do a lot of extra steps. I can texture clothes and gear that way but I've yet to make a face that I like. It's why I've not done much in the way of released skins. So any wacom tips would be cool.
