I'm getting the error message alert:Create Renderer, Directx creation failed: No matching full screen mode available whenever I try to start the game. Anyone know of any workaround?

edit: Also I'm on XP and have DX10, last i checked

Yeah, tried fiddling with the compatibility with no luck. Also, saw that link, but it unfortunately offers no suggestions that work. It's kinda telling that no one else has seen this, but I'll keep hoping there's a way around it.

I didn't think DX10 would run on XP (at least not without a fair amount of of hacking). I thought it was designed only for Vista and above due to the new Windows display system Vista introduced.

I dont know how this might screw up other stuff, but have you tried downgrading to DX9 to see if that fixed the issue?

Dune Jackal

Wow, screwed up a little - I have the newest DX9, not DX10, which is indeed only for Vista.

Just so you know, I also have this problem.  I'm on Windows XP SP3, and I have nearly the same hardware as in the Gamespot post to which you link (it's also a Lenovo T61 thinkpad).

Very disappointing.

I have the same problem running FFv3R in XP on a ThinkPad with ATi Mobility Radeon HD 3650 (switchable, in discrete graphics mode).  Right now I'm updating drivers to see if that helps any.

UPDATE: I ran the Lenovo system update utility, which among other things updated my 3D card drivers, then tried to run FFv3R after a restart... same result.  I also tried to check the AMD site for any other updates, but for some reason no drivers for this card are available for direct download.   :banghead:

I too am now having this issue, if anyone has any further results, please let me know!

Ha, aw man, I came back hoping there'd be something new, but new dice. Trying to make another install attempt, but no dice. Oh well.

Don't know if anyone ever had this problem with Windows 8, but I did.

I solved it.

This post, admittedly is more of a brag that I haven't seen this problem solved and after months and computer death, I almost cried when FFvTTR loaded.

Now all I need to do is recover all of my hero and character files.
