Mr. Hamrick

Ok, I need some advice here.

Over the past few months, I have been involved with a few projects that have gotten me a bit of "notoriety" and "exposure" in the local Atlanta market and in a few other market.  This includes the appearances on The Regular Guys morning show on Rock 100.5, my involvement with some local films, and my involvement with this upcoming vampire anthology project.  As a result of this, I've some facebook friend requests from people who I don't even know but who seem to be either fans of The Regular Guys or have mutual friends in the Atlanta film community.  I suspect that this exposure will only get bigger as buzz about this vampire anthology really kicks off and other potential events in the coming weeks.

So, I am thinking that it might be best to create a "fan page" on facebook.  However, I was wondering if I really wanted to be termed as an "other public figure" on there.  The other option I could do is to create the page based on the "film company" that I am trying to get off the ground with a couple colleagues of mine.

What do you all think?  What are the potential risks (if any) of listing myself as an "other public figure"?
Thanks!

Personally I think if you are trying to market yourself and keep up contacts, creating a separate page for yourself... be it a fan page or whatever just sort of muddies the waters. I think the film company page is a much better way to go as it keeps you (the person) as a unique online entity, but still allows you to be affiliated or seen with other ventures and other groups. Plus I think "fan" stuff should be the offshoot of fans setting it up. You should present yourself professionally as you are and who you are affiliated with, and let the public notoriety and fandom take care of itself.

"fan page" is the facebook name for their equivalent of the "MySpace Films" thing.  When people add you, they "become a fan" instead of adding you as a friend.

hence my issue

another part of the "problem" is that people are trying to add my personal page on facebook.

the way facebook is set up is kinda strange about "groups" and "official pages" for professionals.

No more facebook in China for now.  But once it's back up maybe i will ask people to become my fans too.

Yes, some of you guys don't understand how facebook works.  Fan pages must be set up by the person (or someone one his behalf) that folks are a fan of, which then lets him send messages to everyone without being bugged by 300 people that they don't know in return.

Most people on Facebook with any public exposure have either both kinds of profiles or in some cases only a fan profile.  It's not a fan page in the way you folks are thinking.

and with the exposure I have been getting from The Atlanta Film Festival and on the radio from The Regular Guys and from other sources, I have been getting people some odd friend requests on facebook.  And well, I have been getting recognized around Atlanta somewhat on a few occasions.  I have a feeling that its gonna get worse in coming months.

Well, worse in so much as it will be beyond the cook at Waffle House randomly recognizing me and then starting up a 15 minute conversation with me about Slumdog Millionaire.

And the three drunk chicks and the really awkward photo from St. Patrick's Day at Fado's.

and the . . .

well, the just generally being recognized in some manner.
