So i'll be returning to Southern Illinois University @ Carbondale in about a month. Halloween being a big thing i have already decided on the costume i will wear, i just need some assistance from some pro FR'ers about how to do it. I plan to dress up as Rorschach from the watchmen, but i don't know how to pull off the mask though. I need to be able to see through it, and a hole near the mouth for drinking. Anybody got any ideas on ways to accomplish this?

hey, good to see you, happy birthday!  (no advice on costumes from me)

what about( crazy idea ) panty hose.buy white ones.spray paint your pattern.you should be able to see through the material.if not white enough give them a light dusting of white spray paint.as far as a hole for a straw...burn a hole with a cigarette.should keep the material from ripping.all just an idea.hope it works and helps.post us a picture.love to see your costume.

I dressed up as Death once. I have this plastic skull, and I tied it to a hard-hat liner, then put it on. A pillowcase became the hood, and a couple of sheets became the shroud. My then-wife had a black scarf which I tied over my face tucked up under the skull, and while I could see through, no one could see in. White was not as easy to see through, but not impossible. You might check you local costume shop and see if they have a Balaclava (is that it? SWAT mask) or a ninja mask and see about painting the white area on it. Be funny if they had some Rorschak masks...

One thing: whatever you use for the face, if it is cheap enough to have more than one, do so. Make each design different. Then every time you get a chance, put on one of the others.

Are you wanting to make the mask, or buy it from a shop?

To make it, well, you could make a pattern and iron it onto some cloth, with the mouth and eyes area being mostly black, then cut a horizontal line and burn two holes for the eys with some netting behind it, and paint your lips, eyes, and mouth area black. Voila.

Either that, or (hi-tech and possibly-blinding route) hook a mini projector with a changing pattern to the underside of a fedora hat, facing you, and just wear white face paint, with the projected 'moving ink' on the mask. Two main disadvantages - 1) it's expensive and 2) projecting light into your eyes the whole time? Blinding .

Buying, I'm sure that there's costume stores that sell them. They will probably look terrible though <_<
I so need booze -_-

Put a black t-shirt over your face. You'll be able to see through it pretty easily, and you can pull it up off of your mouth to eat. Of course, you'll have to add the markings.

In general, costumes with masks that cover the face aren't good party costumes, though they work really well for parades and contests. Masks will always interfere somewhat with eating and drinking, and generally make it harder to relax and get comfortable.

i did a Rorschach costume for the watchmen premiere. i wish i could help you with mask, but i did the stupid choice myself...between practicability and looks, i choose looks.
so i was basically blind and suffocating behind my mask , but i got some cool pics out of it ^^ i had a friend who kept turning me so that i would face the camera, an another who draged me around so that i wouldn't bump into anything  fun night it was

In thinking about it - you shouldn't need to be able to drink through the mask as Rorschach doesn't.  All throughout the book he continuously raises he mask to eat.
"But there's no use crying over every mistake
You just keep on trying 'till you run out of cake
And the science gets done, and you make a neat gun
For the people who are still alive."

There is tons of advice I've found on Rorschach costumes (especially the mask) online. Nothing specific that I remember, but try googling it. I think it's funny that you'll be wearing a mask that looks like a cow.
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.

too bad they never explained how his mask works.... It looks like a miracle of science in and of itself. :p
