Some of you may be familiar with cracked.com.  I read it pretty regularly for articles like "The 6 Cutest Animals That Can Still Destroy You" and the like.

So I'm checking it this morning, and under the article titled "The 5 [boldest] Lies Ever Passed off as Journalism"*, scroll down and under the Ben Franklin section and see a very familiar picture of a mad scientist.

One that kinda looks like this:

Okay, this is a surprise.  I'm not sure if I should be happy ("Yay, I'm iconic!") or annoyed ("Why is it blue?").  What do y'all think?

* - yes I self-censored the title, deal with it  :P

You should sue.

For....ONE BILLION DOLLARS! *pinkie to chin*

Looks like they intended it to represent an evil Ben Franklin- note the lightning bolt they added in the background. They probably felt blue was a more Ben Franklin-ish color than green.

As to whether you should be happy or annoyed, that's really up to you. On the plus side, it doesn't look like they're trying to pass of your work as their own. You could always be happy and annoyed, I guess...

I would send them a friendly message...iffin I weren U'all.  Tell them I'm happy about it and want to contribute more....course that's just me and I ain't never had this happen to me.

That's what I did.  I contacted the author, but it turns out the editors add the pics so I'm contacting them.  To early for a reply yet so we'll see.

It seems like, at the very least, they should credit you if they are going to make use of your stuff. And, honestly, they shouldn't be altering your work without permission, either. It's nice that they are providing some extra exposure, but they should still respect your authorship rights. (And, this doesn't seem like a fair use case.)

I have decided to be flattered by this whole incident.

Just heard from the editor - they apologized for using it without permission ("Our layout team has strict orders about only using photos that we legally have access to but, occasionally, they find a picture they just have to use and break the rules.") and added a link back to my gallery page, all of which I am now cool with.

That's very cool of them to transform "borrowing" into free advertising.

You're 3D art is really amazing, Glitch. I really like that one of the guy on the balloonship thing with the lens flare.
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.
