I wanted to do something with a built-in character, i wanted to make that character to have buyable abilities when upgrading others. Like upgrading eternal vigilance and then getting Patriot Throw.

First, you need to make sure your character is in the Editor database.
EZ Hero 3.3 can be used to transfer a hero file to a built-in.
In the editor, you specify how many powers and attributes the character has at the start. You can change the order by deleting and adding the powers or attributes in the order you want.
As far as being able to upgrade - you need to be able to recruit the character into a campaign so the character can accrue XP. This requires some coding. Open up a mission.py and look around for commands to add or recruit heroes. Simply copy one of these linles and paste in the name of your built-in character. Run the game to the mission where you added the code. Note that you may have to start your campaign over.

I believe this is a continuing of our earlier discussion and you've successfully recruited your new built in?

In that case, open FFEdit and click the characters tab.  Now find your character and select him.  You will see on the bottom of the screen, all the characters powers, divided into the two tiers, and his attributes.  You will also see, by all three of these, something called start level.  This determines what powers are unlocked when first recruited.  For example, if the start level is three, then the first three in that list will start unlocked, and you will have to level up to unlock the others.  Notice, that the cost you pay to hire the hero is determined only by the powers and attributes unlocked when you originally purchase him, so if you want to recruit with prestige rather than doing so directly, this will make him cheaper.  You may also want to re-arrange the orders and tiers of the powers to get the desired recruit order and make sure your hero begins with a couple of decent, basic powers and abilities.  Once this is done, click save.

Notice that you will have to reload a save before you originally had the option to recruit this hero for it to take effect.
