NifSkope Slowing Down...

Hi Guys,

I've been noticing my NifSKope is lagging and dragging, when pasting in new parts and when saving.  It used to be quite fast, but lately it's slowed down to anywhere from two-four minutes to paste something and one-two minutes to save a mesh.  During the paste and saving, I get the (Not Responding) message on the top.

I have no idea what the issue could be and I don't know if anybody can help, but I thought I'd mention the issue.

I'll try to re-install and see if that helps, since I'm not really sure what else to do.

Thanks.

Dana

EDIT:  Crap!...Re-installing didn't help, at all...Sigh.

Hi Dana,

Unfortunately this is probably more a problem with your memory, than with Nifskope.  You may have some uninvited programs running in the background.  I'd suggest a virus scan, and then a scan for spyware to make sure the system is clean.  That should speed things up.

Okay...I've noticed something...When I'm working on a mesh that's not converted to  :ffvstr: , NifSkope works fine and is quite fast in pasting objects into meshes and saving the mesh...But when working on an already converted mesh, the program can be very slow in doing these tasks.  Is anybody else having this issue or does everyone just Skope unconverted meshes first?

I have done virus scans, defragging and everything I can in order to speed up the program, but nothing works.  I guess I'll have to Skope meshes in  :ff: format, unless I want to just deal with the slowness.

Thanks Wyldfyre for the advice, but I found no viruses or spyware.

I've had a little trouble with the most recent service pack of Windows not closing programs when I close them. I have a process explorer program that I've been keeping running since the last update. It will often show multiple copies of Internet Explorer and Character Tool running if I don't watch it.

I can't say if that's your problem or not.

However, yesterday I couldn't get Nifscope to run faster than a crawl. I saved what I was working on and opened it again, and it was fine. I have no idea what happened.

I can agree with the problem of programs not closing properly.. I have often ended up with slow down issues and discovered that by opening the Windows Task Manager and clicking on the Processes tab that there is often closed programs still there and taking up memory and processing space. I usually clean up the errors and have no further speed issues.

Not sure if that is your specific problem thou.

Remember that NifSkope uses your network to transfer data between multiple NifSkope sessions.
To do this it expects to be able to listen on the loopback device (127.0.0.1), even when you only have one instance running.

Windows firewall, other firewalls, security updates and inadequate permissions can all prevent this, and the usual symptoms are bad performance (caused by network timeouts).

I'd rule this issue out first.
