Hello everyone,

I've been away for a while now, but the other day i saw my  :ffvstr: CD's and decided it was time to come back to this awesome game...

My only problem is that now i am facing a lot of old problems that i could fix back then but honestly i don't remember how to do it now  :banghead:

I do remember i used the some program for a lightning problem... but i don't think it was Nif Converter since the interface was in "cmd" format... i remember i had to write the name of the mesh+keyframe 2 times or something...

Anyway, i downloaded Nif Converter from Alex Fortress but it doesn't convert the .nif... it says "nif. not changed" :S

So when i open CharTool my skins look completely pink, there is nothing showing but a PLANE PINK skin.

I am was looking in the forums but most of the "really" old topics where lost (for example... all of the ones i started were erased  :() so i couldn't find how to fix this...

I did find this answer here:
http://freedomreborn.net/forums/index.php?topic=51840.0

But i don't remember how to do that... I check it, but those files are not in the mesh/skin so how do i get them / or convert them.

IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME I WOULD APPRECIATE IT. I am really hoping i can skin again... but i am  :banghead:

Cheers ^^

Ok, first of all sorry for double posting but i am kind of desperate.

i hope someone can answer me cause i been trying to look in the forums but i can't find a solution to my problem. I did notice that the files i was looking for i could get them (they came with C6's base skins... THANK YOU C6!! )...

But what i still have the same problem with the skins... If i want to use "male_basic" it appears all pink... and can't Nifconvert that!!

Does anyone know about a program that is run in a "CMD" window and can fix the lightning issue... cause i think that was what i use...

Anyway, i actually work around Male_basic using "NOCAPEMAN" from  :ffvstr: but i am afraid this issue might return if i want to use some other mesh.

Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks again!

Cheers

If you don't have all the required TGAs that a mesh uses it will show up pink in Character Tool. The only lighting fixes I know of are in EzNifConvert (the one on Alex's Freedom Fortress), and using Nifskope to manually edit the values. I'm not sure I understand what you're asking as well. What particular mesh are you trying to convert?

Thank you for your reply...

The thing is that i have re-install  :ffvstr: ater a while and i don't remember a lot of things. One of which is the conversion of  :ff: meshes to  :ffvstr:.

For example, the other day i was trying to convert male basic and it appeared as a plane pink skin... didn't know what happen there... so when i used the Nif Converted it didn't fix it...

So i posted this just to try to solve it before i tried to skin again... since i just didn't wanted to face this problem again and again... I thought it was the Nif converter... but i guess it was just those files...

Somehow.. right now i tried to use it again and it's working :S... i didn't do anything differently... i guess the character tool just got crazy or something.

Anyway, thanks again...

Cheers ^^

If you are using character tool to look at meshes, a combination of video card memory settings, and what appears to be caching of graphic files can lead to characters showing up pink. You can usually eliminate the pink skin by selecting a different skin on the same mesh and then back to the original, or else restarting the program.

So if you're in-game & you see a character as completely pink or w/ pieces parts as pink, can you just run EZNifConvert on that character's NIF & fix the problem or do you truly have to go changing TGA's to DDS's? I didn't see anything conclusive on the EZNifConvert solution, but it appears to be an inconsistent solution. But, would be a heck of a lot easier than changing file formats. Thank you, sirs.

If they show up in game as pink... it usually means you are missing a texture somewhere.

If you can see the characters texture underneath the pink, it probably means you are missing either a refection or glow texture in the skins folder. Opening it up in nifskope can help you figure out what textures its missing. Worse case, i keep a small 2x2 black square TGA file around and will just copy that into the skins folder and rename it to the missing file.

Forgot to mention...it differs per map. For instance, I can use the GL_Kyle setup & he has many different skins. One map, he shows up all pink, the next map, he's in blazing full color. This happens w/ random characters...I'll visit one map & use Batman, Kyle Rayner, & Superman, let's say, vs. Dr. Doom, Amazo, & some other bad guy. Batman will be pink except for his utility belt, Superman will be pink except for cape, Dr. Doom's hood & cape will be green, his yellow circles on his outfit will be yellow, all else pink...stuff like that. Play them on a different map & they're fine.

I haven't gotten deep into the graphic part of the FF universe, sadly. Where's the best place to get the latest & greatest version of Nifskope?

This sounds like a video card/memory issue. Like you just don't have enough video memory to handle all the textures.

If only there were some of kind worldwide repository of information one could look things up with...  ;)

I asked because I have no experience w/ graphics, no experience w/ Nifskope, & don't know if you need a specific rev to work w/ the FF games, if it's just something FOR these games, from a reliable source, etc. Yes, I can use Google, Startpage, Webcrawler just like the next guy.
