Now From Bearded-In-Lair and Da Glob: Evil Superman

In the movie Superman III, Superman was exposed to artificial kryptonite, and he turned EEEEE-vill. His suit got dingy, he didn't shave, he got drunk (?), he chased women (other than Lois), and his hair began to turn gray. Then he split into an evil Supes and a good Clark Kent, and they fought each other. I wonder if the writers had ever heard of red kryptonite?
