From Renegade's response to the "Renegade Requests" thread in the Requests forum, it appears that he has given permission for us (the community) to post his meshes someplace where they will be readily accssible to all (hopefully until he gets his own place and starts meshing again).

So, suggestions?

You neglected to mention the other monthly Renegade titles:

"Renegade Presents..."
"The Retrograde Renegade"
"R-Gade: Man-o-Mesh"
"Renegade Classic"
"Unidirectional Spotlight On: Renegade"
"What Renegade...?"

I'm wondering aloud, now, thinking that there ought to be an opt-in "mesh graveyard" not unlike the Mod Graveyard hosted by catwhowalksbyhimself.  In other words, when mesh websites disappear, meshers could indicate their willingness to have their content hosted on the mesh graveyard, with the understanding that they could resurrect their content (i.e., pull it from the graveyard site and re-host it elsewhere) at any time.

Aha! Tiobe shows that he's not just another pretty face.

Maybe a Skins Graveyard, too (HEY! C6!...)

Any other ideas?

Renegade

That Renegade, he's a giver. :D

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for more meshes though because I really don't have that kind of time anymore. But once y'all work this out I can pass along the McGuiness style Bizarro I've been sitting on the past couple of years (oy, has it been that long?)

You are such a tease. I think... it should just go on FRP. It was my post he responded to, after all.  ;)

*I kid... or am I? I am... or maybe I'm not? But yeah, I'm joshin' ya... or perhaps that, too, is a lie?*

Hmmm...just checked my .psd skin file...22/05/2009 since last modified. Oh how time does fly!

I know! Crazy right? What can I say, the last 2 years have been kind of a trial for the Renegade clan. Very little room for the kind of time FF always took.
Hey Kids, COMICS!

Tawodi Osdi

I don't know you, but I appreciate your work, and I'm glad that it will be seeing the light of day.

nrozich

That's awesome!  Will you release the Red Skull?  Or did you not finish that?

But once again thanks for agreeing to let the community host your stuff.

Both the skins and mesh graveyard sounds like splendid ideas. I think I can safely assume that many great skins and meshes elude peoples attention, just because they have no idea they exist. You can always request meshes/skins here on the forum, and people are always very helpful, but it kind of presupposes that you kind of know what you're looking for. I have for instance only just recently obtained Renegades "Thing-mesh", it's definitely one of the best meshes out there and I had no idea he even made one 'till I spotted a request for it on the forum. Thank you Renegade, by the way, if you are reading this. It would be nice to have a place to go in search, of what has become, hidden treasures, because the creators are no longer active for whatever reason. I'm also pretty sure, no matter how glum the prediction, that the need for such places will only grow bigger in the future.

Also...I'm thrilled about the prospect of a new Bizarro. Yea!

Tawodi Osdi

Usually, I don't know I need a mesh until I look at a skins readme file to find out that it doesn't work on any mesh I have ever heard of.  I have a similar problem when I open a mesh and it is looking for a particular keyframe.  I figure getting Renegade back won't fix all of my problems, but since a lot of skins require Renegade meshes, it will fix a lot of them.

Amazo Version 2.2

as a temporary solution, would setting up a new yahoo group work?
For anyone, and everyone, who has ever done anything to improve the FF/FFvs3R gaming experience, I want to say thank you. Life is so short, and you have all brought me so much joy. I hope that one day, I am somehow able to return the kindness and generosity that all of you have shown.

daglob

I could do that. I can't do HTML, though.

Must...fight...temptation to...buy...web hosting...space...must...re...sist!

Seriously.  If there were enough momentum behind this (i.e., support from content providers and community members who would make use of the site), I would build and host the site.  I've been meaning to try to move MeshMatters (that den of fitful inactivity) to another host for an age; this would just give me another reason to purchase some decent hosting space.

oh hopefully thats just a little joke

seriously mate i'd just love to see your stuff hosted again

Never meant to deprive anyone of the meshes (what good is a toy that doesn't get played with?), but I decided I didn't need to spend the 90 bucks a year to keep them out there. I did the Yahoo groups thing early on, in fact they may still exist, but as I feel these are a visual product I preferred having them hosted on a site where people could see what they were getting before they committed.

I am very flattered that people still care.

There is always room at HeroForce. :)

I think that I have most, if not all, of the Toybox meshes. If someone were to host them, I'd be more than happy to send out anything that I may have that others might not.

Tawodi Osdi

That would be cool.  When I first really go active in the game, I was going down different sites in alphabetical order.  I had checked The Toybox and almost jumped ahead to grabbed his work, but I didn't want to lose my place.  By time I got to it, it was already a dead link.

People care a lot. Your meshes are present in almost all DC/Marvel mods, because they're so good we always want to play with them. Have all your meshes in the same site again will be very helpful for the guys who weren't around in the good Toybox days.

Like everyone else I'm thrilled that we've got permission to preserve Ren's amazing work the way it deserves to be preserved, and I'm glad so many of our leading members are stepping up with offers of hosting.  Thanks guys.  This work should definitely be made easily available again.

Ren, we definitely care, to echo JJ.  There has been a lot of wonderful artwork created for this little game, and your work is certainly among the finest.

Let's face it, most of us are fans of each other. We all love your stuff.

And Kenn's...

And C6's...

And Gryphon's...

And Bearded's...

And Beyonder's...

And Ink's...

And Tommy's...

And...

So... will it be at Heroforce, or do we add to Renegade's Yahoo Groups?

Cyber Burn

I've started to create new groups for the Toybox stuff, just temporary though till hosting is agreed on. I'll post the links by Wednesday. Hope no one minds.

Exactly, and having all of those guys' work available to the community is a very good thing. :D

Indeed.

It will be great to have your stuff properly hosted again Ren.

Love to see RENs stuff back online

I've been playing with this idea in my head for a while. Why not have specific creator owned threads that are locked. The only content would be images of the meshes/skins/whatever with permanent links to mediafire or megaupload?
I know it would really centralize the community. And of course it wouldn't allow fantastic webpage design like heroforce. But I think it would provide a simpple alternative to yahoo groups and other hosting issues.
