Alaric

Just posting to appologize for and explain my recent absense. I moved to Willaimstown, Massachusettes (snug up in the Northwestern corner of the state) a couple of weeks ago and do not yet have internet access. Hopefully, by this time next week, I will be able to post from my own computer, rather than using one of the computers at the local library.

The move went well, my computer survived, and my cats are very happy with their new home. I'm still settling in, still having stressful dreams about moving, and it's going to take some getting used to - I've lived in New York, in Brooklyn or Manhattan, all my life - but it's a nice area, and has a lot going for it from the point of view of an ex-urbanite (several museums, ways to walk most places, etc.).

Hopefully, I'll be back here on a regular basis soon. I miss you guys.

Thanks for the status update!

Hope the move from urban to suburban does not affect you too much, my sister went from being a chef in the Twin Cities to being a mom in Wisconsin and she really misses Pho (a vientamese noodle soup) and stuff like that. Personally I live in Boston and the idea of moving away terrifies me, purely for culinary reasons.

Ah moving.... blech.  It's never fun.

Glad to hear it's all over with and that all is well though.  I'm sure you'll be adjusted in no time.  :)

Sorry, that should have read Northwestern-corrected it in the original post.

Williamstown is technically more rural than suburban, though the fact that it's a college town (the Williams College campus takes up most of the center of town) gives it a less "purely rural" feel than that would indicate. As for food, fortunately, there are a number of very good restaurants in town, including (but not limited to) Indian, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, and at least two Mexican restaurants, one of which is extremely good. There's also a large, well-supplied supermarket and a very good health food store. I do miss the excellent Middle Eastern food that was available in my Brooklyn neighborhood, though.

Well, the move is all over, the settling in part's going to take a little while... Fortunately, I actually already knew the area very well, so adjusting to living here is going pretty quickly (though some may argue that I was never that well adjusted in the first place...). It's adjusting to no longer living in New York that's going to take a while.

Moving is one of the most stressful things you can do, and I don't know the first thing about Williamstown, so I'll just wish you all the best with the move so Al.
