Hi, I just got FFvTR from GOG.  Looks like a very nice game but there are a few gui things I'd like to change before I get started and have no clue.

How can I get rid of the intro movies?

How can I edit that long list of stuff, mainly I'd like to change the angle.  Been reading through the forum and I think they're in an init file.  I tried to open them with notepad but that didn't bring up a list.  How can I access this and edit it?

Has someone already done some editing to improve the game and the file is available for download?

Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the game!

You should also look into EZFX, which adds new fx's (FX are just the visual representation of a power) to your game: http://www.alexff.com/goodies.php

Then after you install that, check out FFX 3.3. It adds several great aspects to the game, including new powers and attributes. You can get that here: http://www.ffx.freedomforceforever.com/

The intro movies, for me, naturally disappear after the first or second time I start up Freedom Force. You can also press the escape button to skip it. Then again, I don't have the GOG version, so maybe that's different.

The Gog version is, as far as I can tell, identical to the original NA version, so it should be exactly like yours, LP.
I am the cat that walks by himself, all ways are alike to me.

I think I'm getting there thanks to the help from you guys.  I really appreciate the info.

I got the game setup with EZFX, FFX and FFX maps.  I got the localinit file setup with the console, zoom addin and found one for a tilt angle but haven't modified that yet.

Have no idea what PFX 1.2 is though.

And still no clue on how to eliminate the opening ad videos other than hitting esc four times.

I don't know if it would lock the game, but you could try moving the movie files out somewhere and running the game. If it locks, move them back. You could try finding a short 1 second movie in the same format and rename it to the names used for the FF movies and replace them. Otherwise, just keep hitting escape I guess.

Last you might try this. Boot the game in debug mode by adding this line to your init.py;

ff.APP_DEBUGMODE = 1

When I ran the game in debug mode, I got no movies.

My first thought was to take out the movies.  Couldn't locate them.  I've looked in every folder.  Where are they?  Then if that doesn't work I'll use your debug mode.

I've never looked myself. I'll take a look when I get home and see if I can locate them. They might be inside an ff file.

All the cutscenes, including the beginning ads, aren't actually movies...believe it or not, they're animated .NIF objects, just like the character meshes. They're all zipped up in a file called cutscenes.ff, which is in the Data folder. If you change the file extension from .ff to .zip, you can unzip it and get to the individual files (be sure to change it back when you're done). I believe the opening ads are in subfolders called "Splash 1", "Splash 2", etc. I'm not sure you can actually get rid of them, but I guess you could try to put different .NIF files in their place to make them flash by quicker. Personally, I don't find it a big deal to just tap the ESC key a few times, but if you're the experimenting type, it could be a fun project to try and figure out.

I took a look.  There was no zip file but all four splashes were in the folder.  So I moved them.  No change.

It's not a big deal to hit the esc.  Just irritating.  Very irritating.  A lot of companies have these kinds of ads but they almost always provide an easy way to eliminate them.

What I think happened was you extracted the splashes out the ff/zip, but when you deleted them , the game simply pulled them from the original ff file like it would normally when they're not extracted. Try making a copy of the cutscenes.ff and moving it someplace safe. Take the original ff and delete the spash directories from the ff/zip AND delete the splash directories as well.

Woops - tried it and it did work, but the game crashed due to no files found. So that will do it, but stops you as well. I would say you're stuck.

Ok, it looks like I'm going to use the esc and I suppose with time I'll get over being irritated.   :cool:

Anyway it's all setup thanks to help from you guys and i'm ready to play.
