Wow!!!
Since I been back about three months now after a like 7 year absence things have been rather rough.
I'll explain I come back load all of my files my ffedit,my ctool all from FF1 :ff:.I never really had FF2 :ffvstr: because i figured well if you have one then you have both it's really the same thing any way.
However I find that my ctool is not behaving properly because almost all of my meshes appear broken up???
My FFdit won't work and my FF1 danger room keeps malfunctioning.
The only difference I can see is that before I ran XP now I run Windows 7.
Besides the fact that I am completely lost because now there is skoping and all of these mods I don't know what's for FF2 or FF1.
Now I have played around withh FF2  and have found that my ctool2 for FF2 seems to work better is ti because it runs on better graphics and I also would like to know what are the differences and benifits of having FF2 over FF1.
What's your advice should I just omit FF1 altogether?
Have most of you done that?
Just move forward with FF2 forget FF1 so I can catch up with the program?
I mean does FF1 have any advantages after FF2 ?And if so what are they?
I really need your guys help. Not only that but there are so many programs you guys have put out.
What advice would you give a novice to begin with and what programs are necesary like ffsquard, and Ez this and that please someone help me where do I start what do I need? :banghead:
I really want to get back into this but I feel lost and somtimes feel like giving it all in.
It's my own fault for pulling out but imagine getting the game where it was 10 years ago with maybe ctool and the first hex program and leaving right before FF2 came out.
Then stepping back into it now??????
Please help me out guys please.I been trying.
P.S. Sorry to whine so much I'm just frustrated and lost.

I think most people have pretty much gone to FFvTR at this point as FFX for that game allows more things, the graphics are better, and it (subjective) is probably more stable running on modern OS's. As a result most of my recommendations are going to be for FFvTR. I am leaving out a few things (such as my MapPack) as while they can add a bunch of stuff to the game, it can get a little complicated if you are not familiar with some of the inner workings.

If you just want to play the game utilizing new stuff:
EZFX - This will add many new effects to the game.

FFX - This is the essential mod for playing the game now. Very few people (if any) play the Vanilla game. While there are a few quirks here and there it adds so much new stuff to the game, its completely worth it. There is a lot of customizing you can do (if you are so inclined) but it requires that you read the manual, and then re-read the manual. The concepts are not difficult, but issues like syntax and navigating through python files can be a bit daunting.

EZ Nif Converter - While most meshes from FF will work in FFvTR, there are those that just wont unless you convert them. This program will do that. Be aware that it requires the .NET framework version 1.1 from Microsoft in order to work.

If you are looking at doing some basic creation:
Official MOD Tools - Install these tools to get FFEdit and the Charater Tool. I have had luck installing this on Win7 64 for both the GOG version of the game as well as the disk based install. I have not tried it with Steam.

EZHero - If you want to further edit your character files and be able to do things like change meshes that the in game creator wont do, you should download this tool.

EZScript - This is actually part of the FFX install and is not a separate item. It allows you to create missions, and campains and full mods for the game utilizing basic easy to read and write syntax and text files. Like FFX it requires you to read the manual and tutorial to take full advantage of it, but you can create some pretty fun little missions using only the most basic examples. Bear in mind this is not an application that you run. You create your missions using simple text files that the game interprets and converts into missions. I believe all of the MODS that BentonGrey and John Jr. have done were created using this.

If you are looking at doing some complicated creation:
Nifskope -  This is the program you can use to manipulate change and edit existing meshes. Be warned it is not for the faint of heart initially. The interface takes a bit to grasp and understand, and you have develop a basic understanding of the nif file structure to do some of the stuff. Its like Hexing on steroids. Even those with mastery of it, still have issues and can break things if you are not careful. If you do attempt to get into skoping, remember to back up your mesh before doing anything. you WILL break a mesh at some point.

Blender/Nif Exporters - If you wanna go full bore creator and dont have access to 3D studio Max, you can create brand new content using Blender. The caveat is that the exporters dont support animations. This is only for those that want to delve into 3D creation or manipulation of meshes on a more detailed level.

How do you access EZScript? I searched the FFX files and couldn't find it.

Look in the FFX Manual in the EZScript Section:
http://ffx.freedomforceforever.com/manual.htm

Its not any special application or anything, you just need to create the appropriate text mission files that define the mission and it should show up in game. FFX comes with 3-4 examples you can look at..
