Well, in my case it's probably closer "wall-locker" than "closet" nerd.  The cammies, high-n-tight, and oo-rah mentality etc are a good screen when needed, but most folks that know me personally know just how nerdy I can be.....no big secrets there, and not something I go to great pains to "hide". 

Fortunately, as I march steadily towards middle age with a wife, kids, deployments, and professional success in the plus column, I find that I could give an increasingly large flying flip what some people think of my "nerdly pursuits".

You just have to be able to talk guns-and ammo, football, huntin' fishin, etc as well; which fortunately I can do with equal enthusiasm.  I firmly believe in a well-balanced life!

Got the day off today, time to go work on my chicken coop a little more.  Spring is coming, and I plan to have egg laying pullets this year.

Oh DJ, we've both always known there are some things you can do so much better than I.....for example, you can emulate the smell of moldy cottage cheese, decaying fox ear wax, and a decaying skunk composte pile mixed with cheap gin mixed with the scent of desperation SO much better than I....and C'mon, who doesn't want to be the champion of the universe in that regard?....and pal, that's ALL YOU.   

BTW, the crusty old retired COL thought my comments were humorous in the C&S essays.  I did not get crushed.  Wasn't too concerned, as I'm probably wearing my terminal rank these days anyhoo, but you never know.

It's so comforting knowing I'm not the only nerdly redneck out there.  Those two traits have always appeared to be polar opposites of one another.  My particular brand of nerdliness (is that a word?) also has a fair amount of 'computer geek' thrown in as well. I've often thought of coming up with a name for this nerd-geek-redneck-hick combination, but the best I've ever done is 'geekneck'.  Not exactly eloquent, but I am sure some others here could have better success.
