Ditto, I wish I had just a fraction of your skill.

Wow, these are great! Batman, Catwoman, and the rabbit with the pocket watch are especially impressive. They have a good sense of mass and dimension. Is there any way you could go freelance with your work? You could check out some sites like "Behance" and "See.Me", maybe.

Ok, am I the only one who has issues with some of these, or am I just the only one to voice it?  Granted, I have no training, and no skill (even my stick figures look ugly), so maybe I'm not seeing things the way I should.  FWIW, here's my non-professional input.

I like Batman, and though I'm partial to the pre-Crisis/Dark Knight design / Jim Aparo/Neil Adams look, I still think this is a good piece, and it's mostly solid.  What bugs me about it is his head & neck.  They don't seem to be lined up along the central line of his chest, and, well, for lack of a proper term, the bottom of his shorts.  It almost looks like he's giving us a head slide from a Tyler Perry movie.  And I can't decide if the position of the right hand would completely hide the glove fringe (is there an official term for those things?).

Harley is looking a bit.....masculine.  Like she's been hitting the gym pretty hard.  As a sketch itself, it's probably fine, but given the character that it's of, it doesn't seem to fit.  The neck is a bit thick, the jaw a bit too solid, and that's probably the most static expression I've ever seen her drawn with.

My knowledge of MOTU is pretty limited, so I only really have two issues with this.  I guess my mental image of Skeletor has a slightly bigger hood, and his right hand is missing a finger.  Maybe it's hanging on Prince Adam's belt as a trophy.  Otherwise, it looks really good.

I think the White Rabbit is the best of the bunch.  I would have to compare it side-by-side with an official Disney image to attempt to find any fault with it.

TUE, I've always thought of you as a serious artist that knows what he's doing, and who appreciates honest feedback.  If any of this touches a nerve, I apologize.

I just feel that I really have no place critiqueing someone else's work. I've stated time and again, I'm not an artist in any way, shape, or form. I could give my opinions as a non-artist, but I would really have no clue where to start or how to do so without coming off as being offensive. So it's not that you are the only one to find flaws (I do agree with you about Harley), I just chose not to voice my opinions. But I will say that the White Rabbit and Slimer are particularly well done.

naitvalis

critiques and honest reviews are very helpful Panther, i still see a good hand wich is maybe a little rusted, but the elements are there.
personally i think Ue must be happy to have  your detailed review.

deano_ue

ok first off i have no problems with people critiquing my work, with the amount of work i have produced for this group you think if i did i wouldn't have snapped by now

no i agree and its something thats stood out from the original pencil work and more so now i've tired inking the thing. the basic pose was taking from a shot of the kubert batman toy i have sitting on a shelf( with obvious changes)  since i ink by printing my pencils on Bristol board it shouldn't be that hard to move the head in pS

this i'm gonna have to agree and disagree with, i do agree the jaw is a bit broad with whats people are used to, but i was using kristen bell as a base so i dont know if i should lean more towards the actress likeness or the characters traditional look lol

I was trying something with using real life actress as the character same reason the catwoman is based on Audrey Hepburn, harley based on bell and i have no idea for ivy

the hoods something thats changed depending on artist impressions really.
Spoiler
and much like batman it was based on the toy sittiing beside me at the time, so i went with the more classic style tight hood.

but maybe i'm wrong but both hands all the fingers, the right hand the one holding the staff?? there is 4 fingers gripping the staff and the thumb

thank you that means a lot, i tried to get the look of the disney version. the sketch was original meant as a gift for someone who sadly through all of my fault i'm not really on speaking terms with anymore

serious artist?? nah i may have a degree in it but i'm in no way a serious artist, i could never get my head that far up my own arse. trust me mate you ask anyone of the guys i talk to privately on here and they will you i hate and often despise most not if all of my art. i'm just never happy with it and always find faults so i have no problem with others doing so infact it helps because i get ways to fix it or even stop me nitpicking ones that dont exists

had some extra time so i tired my hand again at colouring an image.

something that started out as a gift of a simple pencil sketch for someone that was never given due to outside circumstances.

a very polished piece you have here Ue, there are just few things that i can say to, maybe, improve it.
first of all the other leg of the rabbit, i don't think the leg must be completely hidden, maybe the final part of the paw must be visible.
the other thing is regard the eyes wich in my opinion are to red, but i know this is only a matter of tastes.
now i take the occasion to say thank you for all the skins you have done for  :ff: .

Tomato

I don't have any problems with the image itself, but the shading on the colored image is... off. I think part of the problem is that you're coloring it like you're making a FF skin, rather then a standalone image. On a skin, we tend to ignore light sources for the most part, because the mesh is gonna move around in game anyway. Here though, the lack of a central light source is very noticeable (compare the right arm, where light seems to come from a downward angle, to the left ear, which comes from a higher one. The clock in particular has light coming from 3 distinct sources depending on which portion you're looking at).

To be fair though, I think it looks best without the shading anyway, so whatevs.

wanted to try practicing digital sketching using my new cintiq. so ended up just sketching the thing on the desk beside the tablet. no pencil or paper all in PS

lol why has my past 2 fully finished sketches been linked to rabbits in some way

also a speed painting of the sketch coming together

hello Ue, so you have started digital drawings uh? this is a very interesting news, i'm sure you can achieve wonderful results.
Now about the wife of the rabbit, sure roger is a lucky guy  :D, however the only thing i can say is i found the image with to many lines wich are not necessary needed (i don't mean that ones in light blue, obviously that ones are just the sketch skeleton), for example, you can try deleting the circle breast line on the dress at all, or keeping just one line for the other breast and profile .
Same thing abot the arm, you can delete all the lines "in" and keep just the profile and the glove limit, this is my opinion on the draw.
Now i know this is just a practice, anyhow I gave you my suggests to continue practicing on this image.
1-draw she at a full figure.
2-you can transorm that rectangle shape in a full figure mirror .

hope this can help you in some way.

Funny, I just read an article about Jack Kirby on Lifehacker.  Self-taught artist and one of the most prolific and famous comic book artists ever and his philosophy was that he didn't have time for "perfect".

Sure, take the criticism, but in the end you've got to settle for "done" in order to be productive.  I'm no artist, but I've learned that myself the hard way.  Attention to detail is great, even necessary, but you're a very good artist and you don't need to bash yourself for not being perfect.  Fix obvious problems and be intentional, even strategic, about the things you "fudge".

Ps. Loved the Catwoman sketch.  Missed the Hepburn, but the important thing is the inspired choice.

I've seen an interview with one artist (JR Jr.?) who said basically that the best job was the one you finished on deadline. Sure, if you had another (week, month, year) you could do it better, but the whole point was getting it finished on time. That may be why some artist develop deceptively sparse styles, like Alex Toth.

Mavis looks great TUE. My niece would make me her favorite uncle if i could draw something like that.  :P

Well, at least it's not Disney!   :P

I would though consider reworking the tears, maybe crank it down to one tear and up a bit of the sadness look...if that's what you're going for.  If the tears are instead blood then go for a bit more smeared look but keep the three tears.

Not one-hundred percent on what you're going for so my advice is a bit scattershot.

deano_ue

No don't worry do I welcome all feedback of any kind

The tears are kinda important to the character it's Joseph Michael linsners dawn character so the tears are kinda her bat symbol. But I ink you're right about he length and shape

I can't post example due to being on an iPad but do a search for linsner dawn it's kinda stuff you'd like.
