freedom slave

I have never played it.
Is it any better or much different than freedom force?
I am considering buying it.

AfghanAnt

It is and you would be doing yourself a favor with all of the  :ffvstr: exclusive content available.

Cyber Burn

As AfghanAnt said, it's definitely worth the purchase, even as a stand alone game. All the extra skins, meshes, and mods that are made solely for  :ffvstr: are just the icing on the cake.

There seems to be a bit of one sidedness going on here... FFv3R is indeed a solid buy and you should definitely get it, but it has its own issues. For example, while the graphics system is far better, the compression on the textures the game comes with makes the whole thing actually look worse at first glance. For another, they opted to change the energy system in a way that hurts the overall gameplay.

Don't get me wrong, FFv3R has more to offer overall (better graphics engine, continuation of the ff mythos, better compatibility with newer windows versions, etc.), and if you liked the first game I highly doubt you'll dislike the second. I just don't want you going in thinking it's sunshine and roses is all.

Its not bad, but it failed to capture the lightning-in-a-bottle that was the first FF.

The updated graphics engine was cancelled out by a shift in art direction which saw a lot of orange and grey toned levels that didn't really work for me.

The overal gameplay suffered by dumbing down the entirely optional energy system. The auto atack for zero cost powers somehow accentuated the fact that many boss fights were nothing more than a hit point bar race.

None of the new powers they introduced were really compelling.

And most importantly, the story seemed overly fussy and complicated compared to the original FF. The first FF had a joyful abandon to it that seemed to be lost here.

But, its still a good game and worth trying if you were a fan of the original. I'd give FF 10/10, FFvTTR 7/10. Going in with lowered expectations won't hurt. And like Ant says, it unlocks a whole bunch of goodies on the mod scene here.

Dr. Mike isn't wrong by any account, and the change in energy system is a sin of the highest magnitude, video game wise (you never, EVER remove functionality!), but what really makes FF2 isn't just the game itself.  Don't get me wrong, the game is still better than any other superhero game, FF1 aside, but what makes FF2 shine is the 3rd party content.  All of my mods, for what little they may be worth, are FF2 only, but so is most everything being produced these days.  Now, I'd buy FF1 a thousand times over again just to play Dr. Mike's Strangers mod (and I still return to it pretty regularly), so what I've always seen as most worthwhile to FF is what the fans have created.  The new powers and abilities of the updated FF, the vehicle system, and all of the amazing new stories that have been told, they make FF2 an incredible bargain at any price.

Oh you didn't think the new powers were compelling? I'd like to see you do bett- oh, right.
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.
