I managed to get EZNif Converter installed again (copied the installed files from another computer), but when I try to convert the meshes from the first game, it doesn't work; if it doesn't crash the game, it shows a big white box with x's.

I tried NPI's Conversion Pack, but that doesn't seem to be working for me either, but that may have more to do with an error I'm making. Help?

What types of meshes are you attempting to convert? If you're converting skopes, you need to be careful to clean up the skope before conversion (I posted a tutorial on the frworld wiki, but I'm posting from my phone so I can't link to it atm). If it's an actual mesh, what type of mesh is it? Is it irrational or fan-made mesh, does it have fx like fire/ice clouds, etc.

If nothing else, just post the specific meshes you want and someone here will take a look.

For the most part, downloaded meshes I've had from way back when, many of them X-Men meshes (go figure), and many of the official custom meshes (female_basic, male_basic, male_alpha, etc). From the looks if Nif Viewer, some of the X-Men meshes are good to go, but the official ones don't load and won't stand to be converted. Doesn't make any sense, though, since I remember using EZNif when it came out with no problems.

And the command line flashes too friggin' fast for to be possible to read and quote the messages.

I would just go ahead and look up the _effects versions of the custom meshes instead of trying to convert the official irrational ones... they're more versatile anyway, and the irrational meshes don't convert very well, if at all.

As for the X-men ones, which ones specifically are giving you issues? I might be able to narrow that down too.

Doesn't seem to like ANY of the Storm meshes, which is kinda racist. For some reason, LP's Darkstar mesh keeps crashing the game. That's more or less it, I can't get the NPI Converter to work, so that may be it for me. But good call on the _effects meshes.

One thing I would recommend is to actually install the EZ Nif Converter. You mentioned that you copied the installed files from another computer. There's a big difference. It's common for this method to result in any application not working properly. The download is available here: http://www.alexff.com/eznif.php if you need it. An installation ensures that all necessary files are there, as well as putting the installation in the computer's registry. This is sometimes necessary for applications to work correctly. I'm only mentioning this because it seems most likely that your nif converter isn't working properly.

While I don't think actually installing it is a bad call, I highly doubt this is the issue. The ez nif converter isn't actually he converter itself... it's just an interface for using the irrational converter, which is cmd/dos based. That, and I've gone for years with an eznif converter that's been sitting on a portable drive from 3 reboots ago.

I'll need to take a look at the meshes myself when I'm at home to give you something concrete, but I'm thinking the problem is fx based. Specifically which storm meshes are we talking about, inks?

I don't know what else might be going on, but my copy of Windows7 won't let me convert FF1>FFv3R, and it doesn't give me an error message (of course, when I look in the directory, there are no backups). I have to run a Virtual Machine for it to allow that.

Also a couple of peculiarities: a few of the more recent meshes (sorry, I didn't make notes-I probably should have) will work in either game, and DON'T work if "converted". In addition, I have come across a couple that need unconverted keyframes.

On my computer (which is a kind of Frankenstein, made of the corpses of other computers), the box in the Character Creation section of the game usually means that the mesh isn't compatable (didn't convert or IS converted and you are trying to us it in FF1). Figures with black (or white) X's means that one or more of the textures is missing. I have a folder with "standard bits" from the major meshes- glow, reflection, lightmap, and portrait. The glow and reflection are black, the portrait consists of a question mark, and the lightmap is just a generic map. I usually copy the standard bits to a new skin folder (not overwriting any existing textures, of course). I started this because my computer doesn't like missing textures (or alpha channels, darn it).

Anyway, check these out. I hope it helps.

Ah, my bad. Thanks for clearing that up. All of this time and I never realized that.
