Good day to all! I spent a great deal of time tryng to search for an answer before posting but I cant seem to find the answer. My cousin and I are trying to play FFVTTR with EZFX 6.0 & Freedom Force X 3.3. The problem is, when he or I enter the ip address via direct ip and click connect, the game crashes. I we try using an ethernet cord, he or I cant see his or my session. We can multiplayer quite well with first release of FF but FFVTT has alot more to offer via multiplayer so we would really appreciate if someone can help us with this. Sorry for the bad english btw, peace! \m/

Edit:
Were both using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit by the way. Anyone out the who can help pls?

I hate to be a necromancer but I'm having this exact same problem.

I can play  :ff: with my friend using direct ip connection just fine. The problem being that when playing  :ffvstr: and we try hitting the "connect" button after writing down the IP the game crashes to desktop without so much as an error screen.

If anyone has any input on this I would greatly appreciate the help.

For better or worse, I have extremely limited experience with multiplayer in FFvT3R (and with FF, for that matter). And, I suspect that most people here are in sort of a similar situation, since it seems that the best mods and so on were targeted to the single-player game.

However, it may be possible that some of the issues with MP are GameSpy-related, particularly since GameSpy discontinued support for many games a year or two ago and I think recently went out of business entirely. I don't know how dependent FFVT3R was on GameSpy or if/how that was different from the original FF. However, many players have found workarounds for GameSpy disfunction for some games. E.g., I know that soon after GameSpy discontinued support for Neverwinter Nights, the fan community came up with several replacements, to the point that GameSpy is essentially irrelevant to multiplayer games in NWN. FF/FFvT3R may have something similar, though the fact that the FF series was never a strong MP game makes it less likely.

I assume you have tried direct connect to the IP? That should work whether or not GameSpy does.

The good news is that official sellers of the game should be offering support. I would try the Steam forums and perhaps posts to their support that an officially advertized part of the game is not working.

Yeah the problem is mainly on direct ip connection, the game just completely shuts down without so much as saying what's wrong with it right when you hit the "Connect" button after putting in your destination IP (only for :ffvstr: , my friend and I played  :ff: beautifully for hours without so much as a glitch/error/crash).

I'll try and send a message through Steam and see what bites. I'll let you know if anything changes.
