Over in the requests thread, there was a request for Savage Dragon with guns. It was disscussed a bit, and it appears that the SD mesh is not on the permissions list.

However, the old Max Files yahoo group has a Max for The Dragon. The only reason it would be posted there is for someone to use it.

So, would that mean if someone made a new SD mesh from the Max file, would that be considered a separate mesh, and, with permission, would it be usable in scopes and such?

Cyber Burn

That is a good question. Would someone be willing to do something with the Max file to make it usable for us skopers?

Or.... Someone could just make a fin that could be skoped onto a preexisting mesh....

I used Savage Dragon as an example (since it had so recently been the subject of a discussion), but I have gotten meshes that came with Max files, stray max fiels, and, of course, the max files at the Yahoo group.

What would the general concensus be if someone took one of the max files from a mesh that is not on the permission list (and not on the "Do not scope" list), and made a mesh from it?

It seems to me that a mesher releasing a Max file is tacitly giving you permission to mess around with it (unless they say otherwise). Why else would you put it out there?

Cyber Burn

I would agree with that, I think that if the Max file is released, then permission to mess with it is implied.

this is something i dont really know about. i have herd the term max file, but im not sure what it is. can it be used in nifskope?
For anyone, and everyone, who has ever done anything to improve the FF/FFvs3R gaming experience, I want to say thank you. Life is so short, and you have all brought me so much joy. I hope that one day, I am somehow able to return the kindness and generosity that all of you have shown.

A Max file is the file from 3D Studio Max, which, in some way, is turned into a mesh.

I actually found a mesh (and didn't make a note of it) that said in the readme that the max file was included for other meshers to play with.

As far as I know "Max Files" can only be used in programs that can use that file format, such as "3ds Max" which is what I believe all of our meshers use. I've never tried it, but I'm pretty sure that "Max Files" cannot be used with Nifskope.

Max files are sometimes hard to work with that if you don't have the right version of max, a mesh might not even work in max.

Old news here I know, but if there's still an interest here, I can try to load it onto the version of max I have. If it worked, I could convert to an obj file and then it could be worked on in blender and converted to a nif and rigged as needed
