Putting the "Mad" back in science, the IgNobels are the yearly science prizes for research into the strange and often the ludicrous.

Coverage on IO9 (warning: title includes name of male body part)

Loved the Safety Engineering Prize winner, the Peace prize boggles the mind, and The Blonsky Device makes me cringe just thinking about it.

And personally I think the Oscars could do with a Miss Sweetie Poo.

"Cynicism is not maturity, do not mistake the one for the other. If you truly cannot accept a story where someone does the right thing because it's the right thing to do, that says far more about who you are than these characters." - Greg Rucka

This makes me happy. So very happy.

Other than a somewhat titter evoking topic, I'm not sure why the Public Health award was given to the group from Siam.  From the brief description it seems to be a valid, and honestly medically significant, report.
"But there's no use crying over every mistake
You just keep on trying 'till you run out of cake
And the science gets done, and you make a neat gun
For the people who are still alive."

Epimethee

My opera-singing wife obviously enjoyed the medicine prize.

Isn't that the point of the Ig: zany yet valid research?

(Obviously, the peace prize doesn't quite follow the same criteria...)

This! Or, perhaps, just a straight up ban on thanking anyone during an Academy Awards acceptance speech.
Courage is knowing it might hurt, and doing it anyway. Stupidity is the same. And that's why life is hard. - Jeremy Goldberg
