Hey everyone,

Just wanted to finally touch bases with folks on FR about why I have been MIA for awhile and letting my links to my skopes/voice packs break during my absence.

My mom has been battling various health issues over the years and rarely let it get in the way of her trying to make the best of things. Sometime in early 2012, My Dad and I learned that she had high risk for developing Leukemia because of family genetics but every time we approached her about the topic she kept shrugging it off and delaying getting testing for it. Months passed as she kept having minor heath issues and mostly from getting colds and flu bugs very easily but it was mostly passed off as having wonky blood cell counts.

Her Health really started showing horrible shifts around early May and was getting horribly exhausted just from simple housework. On Mother's Day, She was feeling horrible with barely energy at all but still managed to eat dinner with the family and even open her mother's day cards. Nothing was the same after that day. Her health kept getting worse and finally she caved in and let her doctors run a full medical barrage to figure out what was really going on.

By late May we finally had an answer.. and it was our worst fear. She was suffering from the effects of Leukemia which had gone unchecked for years now and had been eating away at her bone marrow and immune system but for some reason didn't appear before on blood work unless it was looked for specifically. I can't remember all of the technical and medical terms but they had to put her on blood transfusions and chemotherapy immediately to hopefully get her body stablilized enough to handle the battle that was yet to come.

Early June arrived and she was making daily visits for blood transfusions and treatments but things were starting to look good as her strength was returning. She started complaining of a sore throat but we assumed it was due to all of the coughing and fighting off allergies which just drove her crazy every year. Soon her throat became horribly sore to the point that eating was becoming a nightmare for her so they admitted her for testing. The folks at the hospital discovered that some form of mold had infected her throat while her immunity was down and needed to keep her there while restricted to a liquid diet and they could easily handle all her testing and chemo as well. Just before Father's Day she finally was starting to look like her old self and was able to eat and talk but still was recovering.

My son and I were able to visit her that holiday weekend and it was the very last time we got to see her. She apparently lapsed into a deep coma overnight because the mold had finally turned her blood toxic past the point that she couldn't handle it anymore. She passed on that very evening on June 15th. Everything past then has pretty much been a emotional blur for me.

It wasn't until my family and friends finally had her memorial last weekend that I finally have been able to talk about what happened and finally have closure.

Thanks for listening,

CQ

I am very sorry for your loss, CrimsonQuill.  Death in the family is a terrible thing to go through, and I can understand what you are going through.  I know it isn't pretty and I know that it's rough, but I'm glad that you've been able to get at least some closure on the matter.

I wish you and your family the best, mate.  As cliche as it sounds, just stay strong and know that you'll always have good memories to remember her by.  That's what has helped me in the past, and I hope that it can help you and your family as well.

My sincere condolences to you and your family for this huge loss. We can never be ready for how deeply losing a parent affects us. Thankfully, it does get better with time.

I'm so sorry, CQ.  We went through something very similar with one of my best friends, and I know that this type of thing just tears you apart.  I know some little piece of what that is like.  Our prayers are with you, man.
