Costume Rating 25: Carnage

Our next symbiote to review is Venom's "son" Carnage:

3: This character means basically nothing to me.  I know next to nothing about him, and the look is very 90s EXTREME, or so it seems to me.  Meh, it's a bloody looking version of Venom.  It doesn't strike me as all that interesting.

2. I never really liked Carnage, his overall design was just really bland and felt uninspired. A cheap copy of Venom.

3, I liked the concept of Carnage (a symbiote on a real serial killer) but the look was very Meh.. mix of red and black with the same kinda spider-eyes and teeth. Now I've seen some awesome artwork taking his look to the next level.

Hell, when Sentry ripped up Carnage in orbit.. I was hoping that the symbiote would eventually leave the corpse and end up on a new host and then take on a different look.. no such luck. Who wouldn't want to see a Agent Carnage concept with a host like Punisher.

Went with 3. Never was too big on Carnage. There are far worse villains ofc, he just always seemed like a 90's reject to me.

4. See, growing up in the 90s, I remember liking him a lot more... less for the serial killer stuff (because as a kid that went riiiiight over my head) but because it added a new dimension to the Spider-Man/Venom relationship... Sure, Venom was a bad guy, but he wasn't completely evil, he just hated Spider-Man. But with this crazy Carnage dude running around, Venom would team up with Spider-Man to stop him.

I decided on a 4 but I could have easily gone with a 3. I like the head, it's different from Vemon, evoking more of a skull image. The body is on the bland side and I'm not huge on characters that have non-solid design that shift and change, but there's a lot of visually interesting things you can do with Carnage and I've see plenty of great art for him.

As a character I like the idea of having a proper serial killer in Spidey's rogues gallery which is mostly thugs and masterminds. But Carnage doesn't always get the best stories, writers rarely seem to know what to do with him. I think part of the problem is that he's too dangerous with a power set and methodology that is difficult for Spidey to face.

Not as cool as Venom, but I still thought he had a menacing look as a kid. 4
