I thought this would be worth mentioning. There's a turn-based superhero game in the works, sort of like X-com, called Capes. You can read about it here

I've been watching a nice playthrough video of it, and it does constantly remind me of FF, especially FF1, though it's obviously much more X-COM.  It looks a bit too fiddly for me (lots of game-y bits, where the missions are more like puzzles than action set-pieces), but it also looks like a well-designed game with a good (if annoyingly modern) cast of characters.

I just discovered this today while looking up the entries for this year's Australian Game Developer Awards. Digging a little deeper, the writing is by Morgan Jaffit, one of the writers on Freedom Force.

I'll be giving it a whirl on the weekend for sure.
