Returning to what has worked before--We're doing original character concepts again!
This month we will create characters based on
SECRET IDENTITY!

Entrants declare their intent to participate by describing the secret identity of an unknown hero.
On April 1st, I will randomly assign the secret identities to each entrant.  The description should not include anything that forces a character design, like the character's powers or any description of his "costume".  That stuff is up to the artists.
Here is an example of a good secret identity description:
"Your chosen character is a millionaire playboy who hides his personal demons through his facade of being charming, superficial and frivolous."

Signups end March 31st.  I will post assignments on April 1st.  Start posting as soon as your image is done.  There is no due date for the actual posting, so don't panic as it approaches the challenge's "end date".

This challenge ends on April 30th.  If you want join this challenge anytime in April, post here and PM me so I don't miss your post.  You can also sign up again if you did your first pic and want another go. I will give you a secret identity description.  After April 30th, I will not give out new assignments.

Rules: (New stuff in bold)
1) Virtually any style--  Drawing, painting, CG, sculpture, sprites, action figures/dioramas, etc.
2) It must be your art.  No reposting or plagiarizing other people's art.  Obviously it's an honor system, but you don't wanna get called out on it and end up ruining it for others.  "Dollmakers" like Heromachine and City of Heroes/Villains aren't allowed either.
3) You can post a skin/model from Freedom Force, but your image has to be more than just a model viewer shot.  Put them in a situation or something to make it interesting.  Post the skin in the Skins section and post your picture here.
4) Although technically not a work in progress thread, it's ok to make one in-progress post and then your final.  You can also create a new thread featuring your work in progress and link to it.  I just don't want other artist's work buried under repeated postings of your progress.
5) Forum rules still govern subject matter.

Remember this is open to artists of all levels and all styles!  It doesn't matter if you draw like a professional or like a two year-old.  The point is to have fun!

GET DRAWING!

PS: I'd like to try out some new ideas for challenges beyond what we've been doing.  Have a non-randomizer idea you'd want considered?  Have an additional theme idea you want added to the list?  Just head over to the Challenge Ideas Thread.

Carravaggio

Your chosen character uses the facade of lowly mafia goon to secretly wages war on his criminal allies.

Great idea, Pyro, I really like these broader challenges that give the artists room to maneuver and create.

UnkoMan

Your chosen character is or was a researcher at a top lab facility, until that fateful day...

So yeah, of course I am in. Hopefully there are a lot more entries.

Zippo

You chosen character faces the hardships of being homeless in the city s/he protects.

This sounds pretty fun! Count me in!

Pyroclasm

Your chosen character is an honors student at the local elementary school.  S/he is a model student, consistently earning awards and praise from others.

Assignments will be sorted tomorrow.
I might wait until tomorrow evening to give out assignments (instead of midnight tonight), but either way there isn't much time to sign up.

Cardmaster

Haha, alright, count me in on this. Sounds like fun. :)

:cardmaster:

daglob

Is it too late to join?

If not:

The first was your great-great(repeat however many times)grandfather. His son was the next, and his son the third. And so it has passed down from your forefathers (and maybe a foremother or two), and it's up to you, the head of a successful high-profile business, to carry the torch.

zuludelta

Have been pretty distracted lately but hopefully signing up will help me get my mojo working...

Your chosen character is just one of many anonymous female office workers by day, struggling to find her place in a man's world

Pyroclasm

Thanks for answering the call, guys.  I think this one will be a blast.
CM: Don't forget to post the description. ;)

juancho

Your chosen character works at a prestigious bank wearing a smart face so tipical of the millonary bussiness man/woman, arrogant and so full of him/her self.

This looks really interesting pyro
I am really excited. When doing the image, should we include the super hero look as well as the secret identity alter ego look???

The assignment is just the hero design, but you can draw them both if you wish.

Hiroki8

can I still join?

description: A struggling artist who wants to make something of himself

Pyroclasm

Yes, you can.  I'll be posting assignments tonight when I get home from work and have access to my randomizer applet.

Cardmaster

Heh, sorry, forgot my description.

By day your character teaches sports at a summer camp, but one night, while bringing the campers on a hike something happened to him/her that changed change their life forever...

Well, here's my entry... I'm not entirely satisfied with how it came out, but am posting it now in case I don't get a chance to re-visit it within the alloted time frame:

I was working under the directions that my character "is an honors student at the local elementary school.  S/he is a model student, consistently earning awards and praise from others."

The concept for the character is basically he's a nice, smart kid who happens to be the reincarnation of some ancient bodhisattva (basically an enlightened person who has decided to pursue an existence of helping others achieve enlightenment, even if it means that he might never break free from the cycle of birth, earthly suffering, death, and re-birth himself).

The whole idea was motivated by my desire to come up with an idea of a "hero" that doesn't involve visiting violence upon others, although I guess it would have been easier to come up with some sort of Captain Marvel/Billy Batson analogue.

So there's my character: a nice, smart kid who, in his interactions with others, helps those around him find their own personal truths and achieve inner peace.

UnkoMan

That is AWESOME.

And here mine have all been the boring super hero route, so far. Which, honestly, I will probably end up doing. Your concept is rad, though.

UnkoMan

And here's mine... As you can see, I did indeed go with a standard super hero concept.

Actually, this one was more of a technique exploration then anything fancy in way of character creation. I envisioned a former long distance runner, who had an accident and began working at a kid's camp. Somehow she regains her skills, increased in magnitude to super human proportions. One comic obsessed child discovers the truth and talks her into being a super hero, including designing her a garish costume.

But really it was more about seeing how this would look.

Pyroclasm

I like it Unko!  Is this the first female character you've drawn for a challenge?  I don't recall you ever drawing a lady before.  You should do it more often.  She looks great.

daglob

She was a top researcher in the lab, but that didn't stop them from pulling the plug, financially, on her pet project. She was trying to enhance the higher functions of the human psyche, and eliminate the lower, animalistic urges. It was her fondest dream to succeed where so many before her had failed. So, in desperation, she tried the machine on herself.

There were two things that she didn't take into consideration, one because she was arrogant, the other because she didn't know. First, the "animalistic" urges she was trying to eliminate included the intstinct for survival, and second, she was a mutant. The effect was that she split into two being, the psi-powered Superego, and the lumbering hunk of muscle known as Id.

I'd hoped to have a little more this time, but fate has placed constraints on my time. It's been easier to finish stuff I'd already started than start stuff from scratch in most cases. Anyway, I'd probably change Id's pose if I had more time, but here is at least a sketch of it.

UnkoMan

I like it, though, and where it's going. The classic Jekyll and Hyde, but with the neat twist of having both at the same time (and Jekyll actually doing something). It's a sweet character idea, and even the "sketch" is great.

daglob

Looking back at what I wrote, it isn't clear that they can re-join and become one person agan, so "they" still ahve a secret ID.
