Wow. I knew it was bad but I didn't know it was that bad.
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.

I have a friend who owns 2 360's. He bought another 1 to play while he sends the other to get repaired.

He was getting a RROD so often he decided to buy a second console so he wouldn't have to do without games for the 4 week turnaround time.

This study isn't exactly scientific though - it's done by a gaming magazine with a small sample size taken from a skewed population (namely, the regular readers of a gaming magazine).

The 360 definitely has issues, but I can't fault Microsoft's customer service - my own just RROD'd after 4 years, and Microsoft replaced it for free, including shipping costs, within a week.

I sadly have red ringed twice, but sill I love the console, wouldn't trade it for the world.  At least Microsoft fixes it free of charge :banghead:

I'm not surprised. Within the first 6 months of buying my first 360 back in September of 07, I've gone through 3 of them. The 4th one I'm on now that I got back in March of 08 has worked like a charm since, but it was such a dreadful pain getting there, and I've been paranoid ever since. But all of them had different issues:

-1st one I had stopped reading discs
-2nd one had A/V issues. Nothing would load onto my TV screen until I booted the machine 4 or 5 times
-3rd one RRoD'd right out of the box, brand new
-4th one still going strong (knock on wood).

I love the 360, it has some fantastic games, but the failure rate is absolutely abysmal. Had I known this would happen, I'd seriously consider getting a PS3 instead.

An interesting part of the survey not quoted above - of those who've had a console hardware failure on the 360, less than 4% of them wouldn't buy another Xbox.
