I've recently download Freedom Force from Steam and can't see to get the FFEdit to work. Whenever I click to install it, it says FF is not installed correctly and shuts down. I followed to procedures suggested in the tutorial (http://freedomreborn.net/forums/index.php?topic=50663.0) but downloading and using the registry editor doesn't fix anything. I also tried downloading an iso to a CD and attempting to install it (by clicking on the D drive on the My Computer screen), but doing so just causes the window to stop functioning. Anyone willing to guide me through my computer illiteracy? All I really want to do is install third party maps and special effects.

Well, I was *going* to direct you to that thread, but you've found it already.

I was also going to suggest that you make sure that the file paths on the main tab for FFEdit were correct, but you haven't even got that far.  :(

So much for my attempts to help.   <_<

Can you give a little more info? Which FFedit are you trying to install? FFedit 1 (Freedom Force) or FFedit 2 (FFVTTR)? Where did you install the game? What OS are you running (XP, Vista 32, Vista 64)? Information like that.

In the mean time, you don't necessarily need ffedit to install maps, and there are a few packs out there (EZFX, various other packs) that install a few more fx without the need for ffedit/manual installation.

I'm trying to install FFedit 1 for the original Freedom Force. As for where I installed the game, I'm really not sure, nor do I know how to go checking something like that- I just installed it on Steam and assume it'd end up wherever Steam normally puts these things? And unless I really don't know how to read my system information, I've got Vista 32. In the meantime, though, I'll try finding a way to install maps without FFedit and take a look at EZFX. Thanks for all your help so far :)

Not that i endorse messing with registry settings unless you know what you are doing, but when you say you downloaded the registry editor, do you mean you tracked down the registry fix that came with the game (the Prev mentioned) or did you download the reg file that moni put together? The one that Irrational did could conceivably suffer from the same path problems that the game itself does, whereas the one moni did was a manual registry fix.

I followed the link Moni provided, downloaded the proferred registry key, and ran it.

Excuse me for opening up an old topic, but I have very much the same problem and it does not appear that after a year, the problem has been solved.

I downloaded Freedom Force through Steam and like many, found the message "Freedom Force is not installed" in response to trying to install the Editor for FF1. I did the registery thing and the message changed to "Freedom Force is not installed correctly. Please run Freedom Force setup again. Setup will now close".

So I deleted all my Freedom Force stuff and reinstalled it, and lo-and-behold I come across the exact same message when trying to install the editor again. "Freedom Force is not installed correctly, please run, etc".

So Steam users... Was a solution ever found or is there just going to be no editing for us unfortunate few...?

No idea if this will help, or work.
However, back in the day, some of us CD install people got that first message.
The cure: run the "Freedom Force_eReg.exe" programme found in the "ereg" directory.
Don't know if that is even in the Steam version.. but if it is, why not try it?

#8
Directory? Is that in the Freedom Force files somewhere?

Oh, and upon further investigation, it seems that something called the Standard e_dll is missing... Does anybody know where I might be able to find that...?

EDIT: Oops, it seems this issue has already been adressed... My apologies...

EDIT 2: By which I mean the issue with the missing Standard e_dll file... I'm still not sure as to where the directory is located.

EDIT 3: No, there is no ereg directory anywhere. Perhaps somebody could send the file?

EDIT 4: Yeah, sorry for the number of edits. But I just thought that I should mention that I was able to get FFEdit running (though I had to resort to the torrent method that somebody else suggested). The leveledit still dosen't work however...
