AMALGAM REMIXED

So one of my all-time favorite evens was Amalgam Comics, a series of one issue spotlights that mixed two heroes pretending they had always been this way.

As a tribute I've been making my own Amalgam costumes in Champions Online. The idea is to remix the Marvel and DC heroes (maybe some Image or other universes later) to produce a bunch of new combinations. Some will be because I think the characters back stories are compatible, or because they play a similar role (heavy hitter, mystic) or because the costumes would probably combine into something really cool looking. I hope to re-use my favorite heroes (Such as Batman or Spidey) in several combinations, maybe producing more hits than duds.


Here is my first one

The Questioner



Vic Castle retired from his Special Forces tour of the world because his wife insisted it was too dangerous. Still he could never stay away from danger too long, and eventually became a reporter and photographer who visited warzones and violent slums. Despite his thrill seeking, the event that changed his life was a complete accident, a random shooting in the park which caught his wife and kids between two warring gangs. Vic was severely wounded and nobody in his family survived. After recovering he took on the persona of The Questioner, a brutal vigilante who suspects that the event may have been an orchestrated hit to end his reporting career. While he does not know which story was the one that required him to be silenced, he is starting to realize there is a huge international cabal involved with all wars and organized crime. His methods usually consist of him showing up unarmed, killing his foes with their own weapons. While he does not always kill, his methods are consistently brutal based on a cryptic moral code he follows. Using his reputation, fearsome mask and torture techniques, none of the questions he asks criminals ever go unanswered.

Dark Devil (or maybe Devil Bat)



Bruce Murdoch was the child of a wealthy businesswoman and a celebrity boxer. During a failed mugging he not only lost his parents, but also his sight when a bullet lodged itself in his brain. He spent years trying to overcome his disability and get revenge, training with the best fighters, boxers and assassins in the world. Still his big break came when a bat flew through his window, and he realized that Sonar was the answer. The geniuses at Murdoch Tech helped him build a sonar vision helmet, and now he fights crime on the streets of New Gotham. His weaknesses of course are femme fatales, difficult court cases and the fact that his enhanced senses sometimes work against him.

Baneom.


A south american mercenary who uses injects a cloned alien symbiote directly into his body. Unfortunately cloning the symbiote is very difficult so he needs to save it for when he needs it, often injecting a little bit more symbiote venom into himself from time to time to keep up his strenght and powers.

And gosh, I actually like Baneom. I don't like Bane. I don't like Venom. Together though, it clicks. Very cool. And I think Devil Bat's a swell name too. Keep em coming.

Mmm... I am doing multiple remixes whenever I have free time, so there is no way I cant do that one now that you suggested it! Already I've got designs running through my head...

The whole idea's good from my point of view, and FAR less likely to get genericized than many other homage ideas.

What about a Champions/Marvel or Champions/DC set of Amalgams?

Well for sure I'm thinking of doing some freedom force related stuff, but champions stuff did not cross my mind. I guess I dont have much of a relationship with the charactes... all Defender ever did for me was acompany me at a low level, give me a mission or two and get OWNED by mega destroids during the anniversary.

Thor-El, the Thunderman



Clark Blake grew up on a small farm in Kansas unaware of his destiny. When he reached a certain age he discovered a gigantic hammer at the bottom of a well he fell into. Upon touching it he became Thor-El, the Thunderman. Apparently he comes from another dimension of magic and science, constantly renovated by a cycle of death and rebirth called Ragnarok. Unfortunately the cycle was disrupted when Lex Loki discovered a way to capture the souls of warriors into the Kryptonian Crystals. As a last ditch effort to fight Lex Loki the allfather sent the soul of his son to be reborn on earth, near the spot where his hammer came crashing down from the sky. Now The Thunderman battles science and mystical foes alike, not to mention the crafty god in the guise of a businessman that is Lex Loki.

Notes: for me thor absolutely must have a beard, it is stated in his mythology, so you will note that this one looks more like Ultimate Thor. Also his outfit is supposed to mix Magic and Sci-fi elements.

Joe King



Once a nearly anonymous struggling comedian at a club owned by the mob, he was offered a chance to make more money. Things did not work out, and when Devil Bat showed up he accidentally fell into a pool of chemicals. That day he went from being the biggest joke in town to being the biggest joker. Now his combined wealth is in the millions between his chemical companies and his illegal activities. But on some days when his medication is not working, he will go out and spread horror and chaos across the city himself.

Bullzsasz



Lester Zsasz has never quite fit in... for him everyone is just a slow moving target, waiting to be shot at. This lead him to become an assassin, tattoing a bulleye on his flesh every time he completes a high profile assassination. This has caught the attention of Bat Devil and Bullzsasz could not be happier.
