Like Tomato and probably a few more of you, I like customizing action figures.  I recently started working on custom 8 inch Mego-esque figure versions of the 80's LJN Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 4 inch action figure characters...I wanted to show them off.

So far, I've only done Strongheart the good Paladin, Mercion the good Cleric and Ringlerun the good Wizard.  I also have works-in-progress of Charmay, the good Magic-User, Warduke the evil Fighter and Kelek the evil Sorcerer.  I'm not sure who else I'm going to try to make (I'm considering Elkhorn the good Fighter dwarf and Zarak the evil half-orc Assassin).  Strongheart and Mercions "chain mail" suits are purchased, as well as a few other armor pieces and boots.  Mercion's mace/staff and Ringlerun's staff are both made by me.  I also made/sewed Mercion's tunic, glove and boot cuffs and cape, as well as Ringlerun's robe and wristbands (his beard is faux fur and his head is custom painted).  I made Strongheart's cape, helmet wings, chest armor, skirt/trunks and knee armor too.

Here are Strongheart, Mercion and Ringlerun...

I love me some Megos. :) Good job on the customs, Cmdrkoenig!

PreRaphaelite

Well, I know very little about custom figures - or Dungeons and Dragons for that matter (having never collected figures/done any D&D PnP RPGing/read any D&D books) - but they all look very cool, and Mercion's tunic especially looks grand!
Yours sincerely, Judi Dench.

Never got into megos as much myself... I loved what toyfare was able to do with them, but I was always meh about the toys themselves. See, I'm not too big on cloth being on action figures (I'm the guy who will roll his eyes at customizers who make cloth capes) because cloth usually doesn't look "right" until you get up to 12 inch scale unless you use very specific cloth.

That said, I don't see any such problems with these. In fact, there's more of the opposite... the fabric sections are where the work on these shines, and it's the armor-ish sections that look meh.

I don't want to go crazy in depth on this because the last thing I want to do is potentially discourage another customizer (I'm not exactly mr big shot either)... but if you want me to, I can point out some things, maybe give some advice.

These are pretty good already though. My mom's big hobby is quilting, so I've grown up around sewing machines and such. I know how painful clothes are to do at that size.

I don't mind criticism (as long as it's constructive), I'd love to hear any advice you can share too, T.

DJ, if you were *really* thinking, you'd become an action figure salesman, and just use their money to buy booze.  duh.

Actually... he'd probably have an easier time dealing with Drunks then toy collectors. No, seriously, you haven't seen epic rage until you've seen a toy collector thrall about how his Zorkon Armor He-man is red instead of blue or something.

You're assuming DJ would care enough about the people that give him money to let it bother him.  I'm guessing that's not gonna happen.

Have you taken it to the Superheroic Dry Cleaners?  They usually get that smell right out!
